Considering the latest problems with donations, the loss of PayPal donation is rather a serious problem, so I was thinking, then I realised something, and thought why hasnt this been done yet?

    OneBip. - http://www.onebip.com/
    SurfPin - http://www.surfpin.com/integrate.aspx

The accessibility to be able to pay via mobile phone, without the fuss of Credit cards, or paypal chargebacks, and its perfect for websites. I think this would help generate cash for the site, its a simple method - the general public have access to a mobile phone, and ways to top it up -.

What do you guys think, would you use this?

This is a good idea, I've seen a few forums where you can pay with your phonebill. Makes it more accessible especially if paypal is no longer available.

This has been offered before, but due to low payout rates, some people would pay $10 for a $3 donation, or at best $5. Also, some people would just not pay their phone bills. This can work, just requires a lot of work and codes. Such as, text 5DOLLARSYTHE to 55555 and then confirm the codes, enter the codes on the website, etc. There would need to be different codes for different amounts and it would have to be automated, which has never happened before regarding donations or anything on Sythe.

I've never liked adding things to my phone bill. But if it can be verified legit, then it's a good thing. As it is now, the restrictions on the donation methods are pretty limiting. We really need new options.

Could still be chargebacked though, just takes a call to the phone company and they'll take it off the bill. Not sure if they would take the money back from their end or absorb it though

Would you be willing to donate $20 for a $5 or $10 rank on a website? Not many people would, and I believe there is a monthly fee.

Yes, in that case they would take the money from Sythe, but then theres and argument and someone gets banned. Same old, same old.

Matthew or any other admin could check the accounts of the service and the chargeback-ers can be dealt with accordingly.

There is taxing on Western Union too. And OneBip does not have a monthly fee, not sure about Surfpin.

I really think there needs to be more than two methods to donate, paypal isnt an option at this time, there needs to be new options and fast.

I definitely agree, but it isnt like cash in the mail, it can be taken back. In all forms of transferring funds, there are setbacks. Im not here to argue, I agree.

I would be able to donate a tone if I could use my mobile.
But I use GBP not USD so they would have to work out the conversion costs and what not.

They would, and for example if you donated 10GBP, you wold receive about 5-7USD because the GBP is higher than the USD.

Just a quick question to you people out here reading this:

If we implemented this, would you use it? Because Sythe wouldn't want to waste his time for nothing.

Personally, I wouldn't, though I'm sure others would.

There was a whole scamming mob around the pins from RS.
Considering this community has MANY scammers, most of the money donated through these method would be scammed money.

Good idea but not on this site

Would Surfpin really be a good idea? Surely those who use the infamous "Lines" (You know what I mean) could use them for cheaper membership. Paymo may be a better option. However even then I believe it is still possible to chargeback the money back.

I think the general consensus of the feedback is this:

It's a good idea to make a new donation method (because 99% of the donors don't want to donate $50 at once, and most don't have WU anyway), but SurfPin and OneBip are both risky and/or too expensive.

That being said, does anybody actually have a better suggestion?

I think problems with pin lines or phone lines will make this method too risky to deal with.

Although this method might be convenient for some, I think more people will find Mail or Western Union more convenient.
