Australia is retarded - the Internet is under attack

    Exhibit One: Reference Link.

It seems South Australia has become the first ''democracy'' to actually deny users the right to anonymity. Anyone commenting on the Australian elections (even on non Australian hosted sites like Twitter and Facebook) have to include their real name and post code. I don't think I even need to explain how undemocratic and dictatorial this law is.

    Exhibit Two: Reference Link.

I'm sure most of you have heard about the Internet filter in Australia. Seems like a great idea on paper: let's block all the nasty child porn websites and all that disgusting stuff. Obviously no innocent person will have to worry about anything at all...

But of course it simply is not going to work. CP addicts are incredibly tech savy people. It really is not that hard to avoid internet filters. Especially when the porn is located in servers outside Australian jurisdiction. Most of this sick stuff is located on datahavens in Eastern Europe and Russia. Also, you won't find CP through a Google search. The closest thing to it you can find on *chans and that's mostly jail bait porn anyway. Not the real thing.

Can Kevin Rudd be such an idiot? No, I don't think so. If he puts in place this filter, I'm sure you'll see a good few additional (even legal) sites being added to it. Frankly, not democracy should be even considering this. It's anti free speech.

Of course Anonymous have made a nuisance of themselves DDoSing government websites and hacking the Prime Minister's website. Reference. All this has really done is further Rudd's argument that there are a lot of sick people online. Trouble is that there are a lot of decent folk as well...

    Exhibit Three: Reference.

So Nick Xenophon may have earned respect by questioning Scientology's actions in Parliament. However this law is just plain stupid. So when I turn 18 in a few weeks and I decide it might be funny to set my age in my Sythe profile to ''5''... I can get sent to jail for 3 years? Thank God I'm not Australian. That law is nanny law and a retarded nanny law at that.

So yeah, Australia: What the hell were you thinking electing these guys in the first place? Your country is looking more like the USSR by the minute.

I don't think it's really the Australian's faults, politicians are famous for lying and breaking promises.

I would normally agree with you, but restricting the internet was being discussed in parliament as far back as 2000. That should have been a wakeup call to voters.

Also, it's a fault of the two party system. It's kind of interesting how Labour and the Liberals both are centre right conservatives. While Rudd may have abandoned his Socialist policies when he left the Communist Party, he still obviously wants to have the dictatorial status his Bolshevik buddies in Russia had.

    Old..
The filter was announced a long time ago and still hasn't been put in place.
South Australia is just a slow place & I don't understand how Nick Xenophon, a guy I have never heard of despite being Australian, questioning scientology has anything to do with getting arrested for setting your age to 5. I doubt that you can get a jail sentence for that.. seriously.

The problem is that the government has to pass a bill past MANY people and if someone disagrees it goes back to the start, so anything new takes a long time to happen.

I gained a lot of respect for him when he questioned Scientology, but now I've lost most of that respect for him because of the stupid legal proposal he made.

Basically, in order to prevent paedophiles from finding children in online chatrooms, it will now be illegal to misrepresent your age online. So if I set my age in my Sythe profile to ''5'' when I'm in fact much older, I can be jailed for 3 years.

    Seem stupid? Hell yeah...

We didn't elect our government to do this, during the election there was no mention of anything like this whatsoever.

In any case it's irrelevant, as Tony Abbott agrees with the proposed system, meaning there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

Though if it's implemented like anything else in Australia, it will be ten years late, billions of dollars over budget and completely useless. (myki, I'm looking at you.)

Oh okay I understand, I actually think that's a pretty reasonable proposal because pedos can get all over the internet and attract attention from younger internet users. I guess it seems a bit harsh and they should probably just monitor the computers of people who lie about their age like that for any illegal pedo activity.
It's really not like USSR. It's a very free country but Australia takes it's laws seriously and sometimes logic gets in the way of that.

For Australian politicians it might seem like a quick way to get rid of the CP. But they don't understand how easily a Internet filter can be passed.

It will be passed, because both sides of politics agree with it.

And it won't stop any illegal content, you can use a proxy, or tor, or a VPN, or email for fucks sake.
