    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

During the cold war, dominate countries (Mainly the US and the Soviet Union) were the top countries in the world, in terms of technology and money. Many say the US is the only one left. Other countries such as Japan, England, Russia, Korea and even Iran and China are on their way, if not already major superpowers. I believe Japan is the closest to this right now considering they are advancing in industry and technology much quicker than the US. They're a strong country and a large force to be reckoned with.

Discuss if you think the term "Superpowers" still exists and if not, will they ever once again? What countries could you see this happening in?

That's because we're still at war. The UK and many other countries have already pulled out of Afghanistan and Iraq.

I think china is the superpower. If they wanted to they could send the U.S economy back to the stone age.
The dollar wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on and without money, you have no power.

    Sources: stock market..

Edit: I forgot to mention their 1M+ military.

I'd say anyone who is determined to say that the United States is the only super power left has one hell of a job ahead of them.

Japan and China are the two who will dominate in the future. Industrially, technologically, and economically.

    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

Lol when I read the title, I assumed you meant superpowers like the ability to fly, etc. Still exist? When have superpowers ever existed? Anyways

The US is undoubtedly a superpower, and I would argue that China is on their way up as well, simply because of their population (something like 1.3 billion out of 6 billion in the word). Also, Asians are smart (albeit shy/antisocial) so they're bound to rise up at some point ;)

Don't forget about Japan. And most of Europe uses "Euro's" for money now... so economically they have equal trade which is a BIG deal. The US's money is worth like 3x more than that of Mexico and they're right south of us.

    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

Honestly, superpowers is a very outdated term, it lost flair in the mid-cold war era. You know, when all the countries bought nukes form the USSR and it was pretty much equal grounds.

On one hand, if you want to consider it, the US is still technically a Superpower from a World War II standpoint. To be frank, the US is slowing losing the grasp of its Superpower status considering the Governmental, economic, and societal breakdowns.

Iran wouldnt even be in the running, Japan lacks natural resources but has technology so they could possibly be but not likely. China is a communist state and therefore can only have the facade of Superpower-ism, making their country look powerful in world views when the internal workings arent all that great.

Iran announced a few days ago that they're obtaining materials for nuclear weapons. It was on CNN like last monday. That's going to put them up in the big leagues.

Are you serious? Korea and Russia are very far from becoming superpowers. Iran is still extremely underdeveloped as a country even with their pity claims of nuclear technology. The whole education system in Iran is flawed. Have you looked at the literacy rates? Or their GDP? 20% of the country is under the poverty line.

You mention Japan, but they have always had an unstable economy. The Japanese Gov't constantly enacts stimulus projects consisting of roads, etc, cuts them off too early, and the economy falls. Japan is now losing jobs to other Asian countries and is far from a force to be reckoned with militarily or, some argue, economically.

No, it's not. First off they only claim to have developed basic fuel cells enriched to 20 percent. Any nuclear weapon needs at least 90 percent enrichment. They won't be "up in the big leagues" for many years to come.

No... The UK still has thousands of active military personnel in Afghanistan. I am not sure about Iraq, but I would not doubt they have non-combat troops.

    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

I too thought you mean super human powers when I rea the title lol.

I am from the U.S, and although I would say we are currently a superpower, simply based on the fact that we have one of the most profficient, effective, and technologically advanced fighting forces in the world, I would say we will digress from that position within the next 20 years.

China is also, and will be, the most dominant country. First of all, they have practically monopolized the purchasing of US debt. They have a HUGE workforce; a country that large will never be short for workers. They have over A MILLION MAN ARMY. These are the most basic factors that will lead to China's rise over the US in the upcoming years.

Outside of the US and China, there are no real superpowers left.Of course that is said from the perspective of actuality. If we discuss the potentiality of certain countries (perhaphs Japan, maybe India), that's a different story.

Sure they are still around, although they don't act it all the time. I would say US is still a super power, no matter what anyone else says. And sadly, I would also say that China is on the road to possibly becoming a larger Super Power.

I would consider Spiderman to be proof of superpowers existing. However, the matter of superpowers depends on what you classify a "superpower" as. Some might not consider Spiderman's powers to be "super", leading to vastly different opinions on the matter. I for one, draw the line at Sea Man, who is just kind of a tool, and not really super at all.
