Should I include Sythe.org in my college applications?

While I was looking at college applications, I thought of something: Sythe.org.

And I had the idea that I could add that I was "moderator" on the forum, which has garnered over 200,000 active members and millions of posts. I could talk about how it's a personal support site while I had also generated a revenue through an online business.

Do you think this is a clever idea? I think it's quite an interesting standout factor...

BTW: I'm only applying for Ivy leagues and a few other notable, top-tier colleges.

I'd put it down if you were a Global, or an Administrator, but not a sectional. Why? As a sectional you're simply cleaning up spam reports and so forth. When one is ranked higher up, they are actually "managing" lower staff which in turn shows some "management" material.

Very interesting. It certainly would be something unique to have on your application..however, think of the downside. Is there something you've ever done/posted on your Sythe account that could be used against you? For example - flaming, excessive swearing, etc. Other than that, it seems like a swell idea :)

    EDIT:

Well, being a moderator, regardless of what kind, does show leadership qualities.

Eh, it's still benefiting the community. If you think about it, what good does a historian do for a club? The club can function without it, but is still leadership. You could also argue that sectionals manage their corresponding sections (obvious statement is obvious).

I don't think I've ever swore or flamed anyone on the forum. I have about 6 or so infractions? And they're rather childish violations such as "accusing of scamming without proof." >_<

idk man, you have done some great things on sythe but if an admissions official checks it out and sees all the scamming and stupid bullshit it would look bad. I would not do it if I were you, especially when applying to Ivy League schools, although they sometimes like things like this that sets you apart from the norm...so your choice

Eh, it's just my opinion. I wouldn't put it down on an application simply because I don't believe it would be fit to be there. I'd rather fill it something with somewhat more importance. (You should keep applications/resumes under 2 pages of actual info and you would want to include the best things.)
    Code:
    Cover page - 1
    Info - 2 and possibly 3
References - 4 (available upon request etc.)
Not exactly sure how a college application works though considering I've yet to start applying.

I Think it would be very beneficial, Its very unique, Sythe.org has daily page views of 45,000. I think that you putting that on your application will make you stand out which is a good thing when there's thousands of applications being sent in.

Very tough call, personally I'd say no.

It puts in the forefront of their minds that violating rules is not morally wrong for you. This site is a black market site, and you are a Moderator, hence voluntarily condoning such actions.

Not necessarily. The black market label was beyond expanded and a misconception. As defined in Princeton wordnetweb, a black market is:
And this site is not exactly violating any laws... This site is still up, right?

Add it in just as something unique about your self. Don't like put it down as a job or anything like that lol, just say something unique about me is I am or I was a moderator of a pretty well known forum on the internet and help keep the website run smoothly and everything in order, and I also would help anyone that needed my different services whatever they may be. I was given this job out of thousands of other users, so this really makes me kind of different from everyone else.

Thats not the point, I never debated the illegality, rather the perceptional immorality.

Interviewer: Why did you decide to accept the position as moderator at Sythe.org
You: I am a natural leader, I wanted to be an active member for this community, I liked the community, I like leadership positions, I wanted my hardwork to be on display to everyone. (Many answers)
Interviewer: But this site engages in and condones immoral activities, did you want to be seen as a leader and an active member of such a community?
You: Yes I do. (Death sentence) No, this site does not condone in any illegal activity.
    Interviewer: Only immoral?
    You: Thats subjective.
Interviewer: Well me and my colleagues find it immoral.
You: ... Puck you bic boi.

    See what I mean?

    I'm just playing devil's advocate, buddy :)
Immoral activity... how? The site offers much more than the marketplace, if that's what you consider "immoral." While there are a few sketchy areas of doubt, the site, holistically, promotes discussion, commerce, and personal support. 3 outstanding areas that comprise the majority of the forum. Not to mention, we are punishing troublemakers, enforcing proper conduct, and etc.

But I see what you mean...

If you put Sythe in your application, that is probably the stupidest thing you can do.

Sythe isn't an official company, it's an illegal business, and above all else - what are you going to tell the recruitment officers, "in my spare time, I get post counts on a forum".

Thats why I said it's a tough call, it's a double edged sword.

But the market itself has over 300,000 threads, outnumbering the collection of all the threads in other forums. Immoral as in condoning the breaking of a companies tos/u.

I'm just trying to show you how an interviewer may respond. I don't think this site condones immoral activity to a relevant point. Just highlighting that many people may and do, and in the case of an Interview and an application depending which side the double edged sword swings could make or break you.

If someone actually looked into it, which if you're applying to top-notch schools I'm sure they would, it'd merely screw you. I don't recommend it.

I used to be an Administrator at Pixel2Life.com and TutorialFX.com(defunct now), and I put them down on my college application. They seemed interested in what I did even though I'm taking Advertising. So thats just my experience :O

The first thing you see at the top of the page is "The craigslist of virtual goods" I wouldnt recommend it. Particuarly as most of the markets are based on violating various games' ToS.
