[Suggestion] A solution to clean up the market place!

I've been on the market place for decent time now and i've noticed that finshed deals / old and outdated threads that will NEVER be used again are still in there.

I propose that for each section there should be a sold area, or you could just make it one giant section.

Where users *when they are finished with trading/buying/selling* could close their threads themselves and it gets automatically moved to the *Sold* or *Completed Trades* section.

This would clear out the trade forum which has thousands of pages and it will allow users to see what is still for sale and what isn't.

To add to this system, you should also make posts in the trading forum that are older than 30 days get automatically moved/archived into the *Sold* or *Completed Trades* section.

This will allow users to still go back to their old threads for information they want to review and it'll allow the market place to be cleaned up for easier navigation and use.

Don't see any point of this. Also having a larger thread count/views makes the site seem more active to new users.

Also closing threads im 99% sure will remain Mod Perms.

Seems un-needed and just a hassle for staff.

It's unneeded but I don't consider it a hassle, just an alternative.
Staff would only need to implement the system, which any one of your vb coders could do.

Also with 310,000+ members and counting, I don't think you need to show the 1,000s of pages in that area to make it 'seem' like it's active when it actually is...

Like I said this is about cleanliness and it makes it easier for users to go through the pages without hitting any inactive posts.

The option to close the thread doesn't necessarily have to be given, an option to mark the trade as finished so the thread gets moved to the finished trades or sold section would suffice.

I don't ultimately see the difference. When threads are no longer used, maintained and bumped by the sellers, they die off to the end of the forum. If they're moved to this other section, they'll just die off there. Also, you'll find that if a member leaves the market for an extended amount of time (Whether banned, unavailable or just plain postponing there service) they'll come back and to get it moved causes more work for moderators. I understand what you're saying about it will be cleaner, but the moderators are already unpaid and are volunteering their time to the website. You yourself even said it's not exactly needed.

First, if you're suggesting members have the ability to close and move their own threads, it's in theory a great idea, but it won't ever happen. The staff really don't want to allow regular members and moderating abilities because they could potentially be abused. Also, I don't know if these threads would be able to automatically move themselves to the forum upon locking. It'd have to be done manually. Sure, the thread could be reported and a moderator could move it to the section where the dead thread goes, but again, unnecessary work.

I do agree, you make a point here. But if a member really wants to make a sale, all they have to do is to make a post. If the thread is further than a few pages back and hasn't been bumped in over a week, I'd say it's safe to assume the thread may be dead.

Again, I'm not sure if this is even possible. And the moderators really shouldn't have to go through the forum and seek out threads that haven't been posted on in over 30 days to move them to the forum.
