All these experiments where tested in a vacuume, which could tell why these tests are how they are. Subatonic particles, the neautrino's, may react to particles as light does, causing massive de-acceleration in contact with other particles.

I have heard a lot about this lately. I currently intern at Fermi Lab, and although I don't work in the department of particle phyiscs at fermi, I have heard a lot of talk around the facility about this. Thanks for posting. It's very interesting.

this topic is suddenly popular everywhere haha

But remember: it is possible that the gravitational pull and movement of the mantel hindered the light's ability to move at its normal speed, giving it a disadvantage.

I'm fairly sure that makes no difference at all.

The speed of light is a tad under 300,000 meters per second. If any particle goes 1 metre above that maximum threshold, they have surpassed the speed of light. It's irrelevant to whether or not the gravitation pull can distort it's speed, for example a black hole.

Yes, a black hole has the ability to bend light, slowing it down.
Let's not forget that a nanosecond is one billionth of a second, and that's very minute.
Thus, if a black hole can "visibly" bend light with its gravitational pull, then it's not weird to think that the earth's gravity can do the same, except in a much smaller scale.

But of course this is only a possibility and may sound strange.
However, it's no stranger than the idea of a mass traveling at a speed faster than light :)

It's completely irrelevant..the particles weren't racing alongside light. The speed of light is a known constant, to which the particle speed was compared.

Well if you could travel back in time in the future, wouldn't we know about it now?

Is this the solution to space travel?
What would a light year take ?

Incorrect. You need to verse yourself with the concept of Gravitational Lensing. Gravity causes a curvature in space-time, allowing for light to bend, however it will still travel at a constant speed within a vacuum. Gravity does not slow the speed of light, only the medium in which light travels in, will cause a variation in speed (see Refraction).

Light will only slow down as it approaches a large gravitational force relative to an observer.

No, it's actually the opposite. I think you're misunderstanding the article.

Weird...we just discussed this in our chem class today. I was the only one to know what it was. :D

    Thanx Sythe!
