Weird for a guy to like pop?

So I'm a guy but I hate all music such as rock, metal, and stuff. Instead, I just really really like the latest pop albums from people like Bruno Mars, Adam Young etc. Is this gay? Or is it just a personal preference

 

if you feel gay listening to that music, it's because that music's pretty faggoty, not necessarily you.

I don't think it's weird. Just uncommon. I like certain pop. I just hate overplayed pop.

 

Would it changed you mind if you knew that most of those pop artists don't write their own songs, as opposed to most rock/metal/etc bands that do write their own songs?

Unorthodox Jukebox (Some bruno mars album) is pretty much made up of songs that are written by producers and Mars gets a little credit because he's a little poppy puppet.

I hate to be mean, but believe me when I say there is A LOT of better things you could spend your time listening to other than this fake garbage.

Edit: I didn't know who adam young was at first, but owl city rings a bell. I looked at his latest album and again, most are written by producers with due credit to him, however some aren't even credited to him which makes it 100% not a song he made... Not to mention owl city is pretty lame (Sorry you asked for the opinions).

 

Completely agree with this. But that doesn't make it "weird" for him to like pop. Many people are sucked into the pop culture seeing that it is what everyone else is listening to. I personally think it is comparing apples and oranges. Pop is just so different than let's say country or metal that I find it worthless to try and say which is "better". I do understand that people "prefer" a certain genre, but that doesn't make it "better" imo.

 

But it is weird in the sense that it's fake, and most of the time stuffed tight with advertisements and subliminal bullshit that makes you think you need something to be "Cool" or something you aren't. Don't believe me? I guarantee "Gucci" sales have done nothing but skyrocket since that fat ape has been blabbering about it from station to station.

I mean come on, it's garbage. It's weird. People should really stop listening to it, and I think a lot more people are realizing that, a lot more new artists are rising with better potential, and we're pretty due on a pop culture/genre change so hopefully this shit will be dead and buried by 2015

edit2: just to make me sound less of a dick, and not like I'm some sort of die-hard "rock is the only way to go" fan boy, I appreciate a lot of music from a lot of different genres, and have been playing for over a decade and have been producing my own music for over 5 years, so from a musicians point of view, when these people pollute my business and are more successful than me for making fake shit, I get a little offended. Same way you might get a little offended if some clown talks crap about the great state of Texas and their football teams

@everyone else: I dont listen to pop because my friends do it, or because the rest of the world does it either. I just LIKE it...the tunes are upbeat and fruity (can't think of another word) and I find all other genres (especially RAP) completely devoid of that

 

It's not gay at all and you should continue listening to what you like regardless of what others say but I do see where Floyd is coming from and it's true that these artist don't write their own songs and it's stealing from Floyd who is writing his own songs. I personally like every genre except for hardcore rock and metal but pop is one of my favorite along old school rap.

 

Has the world come down to if you listen to a certain type of music means you're gay, Jesus. What has the world come to, listen to what you want mate, why change yourself because the world see's a certain type of music gay for males to listen to. If people didn't do what they want we would have half the shit invented.

@Chaotic Dude there's a reason that stuff sounds so appealing to your ears. It's written by people who study in the art of topping charts. They know what it takes/how to do it, that's why these people use them. It's like a free ticket to the top. Ever heard of "selling your soul to the devil" thrown around in the music industry? This is arguably what people are referring to although it's MUCH more rampant these days because the industry has become a complete cash-in business, just since the turn of the century especially! Get this, their job is to create the catchy, chart toppers; your job is to be another listener. But you're not listening to a musician's creative piece of work, you're listening to a business project. These same people write for all of your favorite artists, the same person might write 5 puppet's "music" (Puppets = bruno mars, beiber, etc.), this is why you don't get the same emotion in songs these days as often as you might some time back because literally it's polluted with these buzzards. The emotion doesn't exist, it's fabricated, so it doesn't give off the same feeling.

I know it probably sounds like I'm a rambling fool, but I mean seriously, I really, strongly urge you to branch out and look a little deeper than this shiz if you care enough about music to be insecure about it.

Like I said though, we're due for a change soon so I'm sure this type of poppy candy coated poop will be forgotten and regretted one day. I only hope something actually moving becomes big because music changes the way we all act, think, it changes more than we think it does. The only thing this music has been creating is a generation of disrespectful, narcissistic (god is this true), raving idiots. And god dammit if one of you says "i listen to that n thats not me" I'll keel you... You're the minority, I promise you...

And you really should care about what you listen to for the very fact that it does influence you more-so than you might think... Ehh but what do I know

 

If listening to it makes you happy then listen to it. Music is about having emotional connection to it. If you feel happy/sad/angry when you listen to a certain artist then why stop listening to it if you enjoy it. Just because someone else thinks its "weird" doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to something you enjoy.

the song was still created by someone who put meaning into it.
the melody was still inspired by someones emotions.
and the singer still puts the feeling and emotion into their voice.

the fact that its made from multiple people doesn't make it anything less its simply your music preference that makes you say it is not fact

I mean you could name off some of your favorite bands and I can tell you how their instrumental capabilities are lacking, lyric problems etc. and because of that the band is shit, but that doesn't make it true. some people don't have the talent or the time to learn to physically create their music but that doesn't make it any less worthy than someone who was able to create the music physically and intellectually.

your opinion on the "business project" might be right to a small extent but even those who are paid to create the music still put their own feelings into it and honestly whats the difference from a group of people coming up with a catchy song rather than a band\singer? Do you not think we musicians try to come up with catchy melodies? do you think we don't play with our words to create a smoother flow to the song? it's all the same no matter how it gets done I hope you realize this.
