    Starting gym at the end of the month advice?

    It's finally time to admit that I'm not as slim as I used to be and it been on my mind for a while to maybe start doing something about it I currently weigh 15st (95.2 Kg), I have tried gymming before but my will power and self-discipline really sucks.


    One of the main things that stopped me going to the gym is not knowing what to eat I have googled "Healthy foods to eat" many many times but nothing makes sense to me lol


    So if anyone can drop me tips or any advice whatsoever on where to start with my eating and what to eat and when to eat and what to and what not to do at the gym.

    I just need a starting point and a point in the right direction!

    I'd recommend getting a personal trainer (some gyms have them for free 24/7) who you can talk to in order to get you started on a good routine. Eating better and exercising won't do much if you're not doing it consistently, so find a routine and a time to plug it into your day several times a week. Also, try not to be results orientated as hard as that may sound. You may lose 5kg in a week or two or you may not lose any. Just stay focused and consistently do what your trainer recommends and in the long term you'll have a higher chance of EARNING the results you desire. Sorry I can't help you out on the nutritional side of things, but I'm sure a trainer could give you some tips that would be more accurate to your lifestyle.

    As far as the actual gym experience goes, don't worry about what other people are doing for their exercises/routines. Do some research and create a workout plan that fits you and your schedule. Also, in my 5 years of lifting I have found that the most important thing to stay in shape is to be consistent (go to the gym frequently or as much as possible) and eat enough healthy foods. I can't say what in specific you should eat as I am not a nutritionist but there are many people online who can help (or have helped) with that.

    Eating the right foods (and the right amount) plays a HUGE part in shaping your body. So, if you are trying to lost weight for example, it would help to create a diet plan with 'x' amount of calories that you can track daily. This will help with maximizing your efficiency and getting the best results as fast as possible.

    Not sure if this really helps all that much, but let me know if you have any more questions in specific. Also, best of luck with your new healthy lifestyle! ( it's the best thing you can do for yourself :) )

    You have to be consistent in going as well as eat good proteins chicken, bison, steak and some good carbs. I have a pretty solid workout plan if you wanna start out. I just about a 8 months ago and I'm a routine goer now.

    Monday - Chest/Triceps
    Tuesday - Back/Biceps
    Wednesday - Legs/Shoulders
    Thursday - Chest/Triceps
    Friday - Back/Legs
    Saturday - Shoulders/Legs

    You should also do workouts according to your goals. If you want cutting you should put every body part in twice a week. Also follow a good diet and nutrition plan good protein diet for muscle gaining.

    First off: good job on realizing that you want to change and taking the steps. You're already farther than most people! As far as a workout routine, whenever I was first getting into the gym I used one of the apps from Jim Stoppani (just search it in any of the app stores). It gives workout routines, diet trackers, video tutorials on how to use some of the gym equipment as well as perform certain exercises. Theres "shortcut to shred" for losing weight, "shortcut to size" for bulk muscle and one other that I've forgotten the name to.

    PS: A George Foreman style grill which will cook your food fast and drain the fat off is good! Pair that with a rice cooker and you'll have some nice lean chicken and rice :) Great meal for cutting

    I don't like to workout in gym, but sometimes I do this. I prefer basketball, I play once or twice a week. Also I like to visit different matches and watch games online. All upcoming events I check on 777score very comfortable.

    My best advice is to just go. When I first started going I tried to quantify everything I did with nutrition, workout goals, etc. and ended up demotivating myself. Do your research for sure, but also take Reddit or other fitness communities with a grain of salt because they're all very strongly opinionated. What I found is that everything doesn't need to be perfect as long as you show up and try. Hope you end up loving the lifestyle. :)

    Hi there @Faulk Night whilst yes eating healthy foods is usually main priority, your body isn't going to just adjust to them within a span of 5 minutes after eating.

    Go in with a clean mindset, look at what the gym offers and what you feel you would feel comfortable doing, maybe do a few dumbbell workout sets then maybe a back one and legs then followed by whatever else just to get your body into wanting to do it.

    Once you feel completely comfortable and know what you are doing or feel like you do, set it up day for day, let's say monday = biceps, but tuesday = legs and so on.

    Yes, I follow the workout but not the diet. I'm also 1 stone heavier than you, and x3 the size overall I was before working out originally.

    If you're looking to lose weight don't forget to do Cardio ( I usually do 1.5hour walking per day and I usually burn around 500Kcal)

    Main thing is just doing it and not thinking too much about it. "am i doing this right or wrong..." etc. As nike told you; just do it.

    Diet is key. Dont push too hard, think long term, dont be lazy and do too little. Push yourself enough you know you will grow but not too much youll not be able to train again that week.

    Better to go 4 times a week consistently for a month than 7 times in a week for the first week and 0 times for the next 3 weeks in the month because you're burned out.

    everyone basically gave good advice. I fucked up when i was working out a lot, i had the worst diet ever so obviously the shaping my body wasn't going to anything. I would work out and i would try to meal prep; but it'd never work out because my friends would pressure me into eating out and then i would drink alot too so ya only 6 pack i got was a 6 pack of miller lite
