Steps to secure your RuneScape account

Follow these steps to secure your RuneScape account.

    - Add recovery questions, make sure that no one could guess them, and change them every few years.

    - Set a very good password like
474gpdolrkf94, and change it every few months.

    - Add your email and secure it : add recovery answers/questions, an additional/recovery email (secure it too), a telephone number, street address and so on.

Do not use hotmail/live emails, they can be hacked.

    - Do not link your RuneScape account with your Facebook account, it can be easily hacked by professional hackers.

    - Do not let anyone to play with your account besides you, and do not use bots if you do not want to risk to get banned.

    - Set up a hard to guess bank pin.

Change bank pin recovery delay from 3 days to 7 days.

    - If your account gets hijacked because of your compromised recovery information, contact Jagex via
[email protected] and ask them to remove hijacker's information.

    - Do not click on Email/Forum RuneScape links, just go to RuneScape.com by yourself and check what you need to.

Do not accept Java unique certificates on unfamiliar websites/RuneScape private servers.

    - Nowhere use the same password as you use on your Email/RuneScape account, try to use a unique password on every website.

    - Install a good Antivirus program if you do not have one (Kaspersky/Nod32 are very good ones).

Also, make sure you use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program.
Always, even you think you are not infected, scan your system with these programs.

Following these steps will secure your account to maximum
    :)

Very helpful tips. Get a little more of an organized layout, and I'm sure this could be a future sticky.

This is more like common sense, than a guide, but I guess it is all right.

Just to correct one thing: Hotmail e-mail addresses are no easier to hack than Gmail, Mail.com, Hush, etc. If you have quality passwords, and your security question answer is difficult, there is no way to have your e-mail address "hacked".

    This is incorrect.

For a hotmail email, your password can be stolen through the "I forgot my password." For a Hush email, if you forget your passcode, you can't get a new one.

What you may be referring to is the MSN ID, which has the same security no matter what email you use.

For some reason, Hush emails don't connect to Runescape properly for me. I disconnect regularly when I use them.

No, what I'm saying is that if you have some common sense, a Hotmail e-mail address can be just as safe as any other e-mail address. The only way people get "hacked" is by their own stupidity. No one ever gets "hacked" in the first place, they lose access to their account(s) because they have an easy to guess security question. Take that out of the equation by having a difficult or impossible to guess answer, and your Hotmail account is now unhackable (not a word)...

If you buy an account, wouldn't adding a facebook make it more secure because you can login with facebook even if they recover and change the password?

Only in this case, but it is only if your bought account gets recovered by the owner.

And even the owner can log in with his Facebook account and then you will not be able to.
