    Auto-lock threads

Basicly after hovering around the rs section *which is the main section i post it, but i'm sure this happens to all** Theres alot of threads with people posting Bad links, be it viruses, IP snatchers anything NOT allowed on sythe, i keep seeing people saying reported don't post anymore to bump it up, people still post wanting that PC ** I'm guilty of this**

    so my suggestion is this

    - When on the report section where you fill in the details of the report, perhaps create a button for this specific reason, that will auto-lock the thread untill a mod/admin comes along and handles the case.

    Pros/Cons of his feature

    PROS

    - It would keep uneeded spam down

    - it would keep people from bumping a dangerious link back up which SOMEONE may end upclicking from not thinking.

    - it would save mods time to handle more stuff, instead of them locking the thread and infracting they would just need to ban the user and move on.

    CONS

    - User could abuse this and just randomly lock other peoples threads for this. ** if this is implimented i suggest SERIOUS consiquences <-- spelling* for purposely false reporting this***

Please leave your feedback below, any pros/cons you can think of i will had to the list!

    ~thanks

    So comments worth noting

after thinking about it more i can see this being more of a problem then a tool after what you said in irc about people not letting us have nice things.

If this is possible that would be a good tool to have/get out of this topic if the OP is denied.

the status of having to acc contribute to the site to get this is a good idea, and would weed out what scottay said about army of bots/sythe enemies from just mass locking our threads. also the flagged twice thing is great.

The con is the only thing that matters in this suggestion. I don't support at all. Instead of people spamming the irc with bots those same people could just gang together and report tons of threads to lock perfectly fine topics. It is something that people would abuse way to often, and I'm not even sure there is a plugin or a way to do this.

It seems like an unnecessary idea for something that is not too big of a problem. Good intent, but I just would be very surprised to see it implemented.

If its possible it would be nice if we could lock our own topics without having to report them. With locking other people's topics it would create more problems.

The concept is nice, but a serious revision would be necessary.
I feel like there should be an invisible group that members are automatically put into when they reach guru status and/or 12 months of forum activity (can be revised). Should you be in this group, you may flag any post as "dangerous". Should a thread be flagged twice, all links and possibly images will automatically be shut down until reviewed by a staff member. Abuse of this privilege will lead to termination from your position in the group and a forum ban of a pre-determined amount of days.

No support at all. There would be too many people locking each other's threads because that user made the other mad. As a result, they would get 'revenge' and lock all the other user's threads. It would just be a huge mess of locked threads, and in the end it would create MORE work for the moderators.

    I really like this idea
But yea, I think if there was a system such as this, it would be abused heavily.

I do not like the idea of letting members lock their own threads.

If it was a system that calculated the quantity of the reports, then maybe.

Ex: 3 users report the same thread - Thread gets locked temporarily - Mod can check on it when he has time - Make the final decision.
