Staff Access Improved :-)

EDIT: Looks like lots of staff members already had alternate accounts. Seems like all I've done is give everyone a way of keeping it organized. Oh well

For security and convienience reasons, staff members logging in on mobile devices or public locations has been inadvisable in the past.

Our solution to this is that staff members are now allowed legitimate alternate accounts that they may use in these situations. With permission from higher admins, I have created a new usergroup specifically intended for staff alt accounts.

These accounts will always have underlined (but not bolded, nor colored) usernames, and a bolded user title clearly stating that they are the legitimate alternate account for a staff member. If anyone claiming to be a staff alt account has neither of these things, then they are an impostor and should be reported via the Report a Scammer forum.

These accounts cannot send nor recieve private messages; in order to contact a staff member, do so via their main account. They also have no access to private forums, nor do they have the ability to perform any moderation or administration whatsoever. Essentially, a staff alternate account cannot do anything that an ordinary user cannot. If anything, these accounts are even more limited than ordinary users.

Staff are NOT ever going to make trades via these accounts; when they use the market, they will do so on THEIR MAIN ACCOUNTS.

Whenever a staff member leaves the staff, their alternate account, if any, will be banned as a security precaution.

 

For example, this is my alt account.

Nice idea. Maybe regulate all names to be *Account Name*-Alt. I.e. SMR-Alt would be yours. That way it is easier to understand who is who

Why not just make a rank for such users, or give each alt account the main accounts Mod/Admin status but in a different usergroup where such permission limitations are so.

The above it just a suggestion to avoid confusion with new users in the future years/months.

 

Agreed. Rank the accounts to root out potential impostors.

 

Well, we do have custom text and custom user titles for staff alts; if anyone has a suitable rank, feel free to suggest it.

 

I'd be happy to fashion a rank - but of course this would need to be discussed with Matthew as well, since he'd have to do a little work incorporating it.

Yes, it's already a requirement for alternate accounts that they contain the ENTIRE username of the main account.
