Monkey tricks
Monkey tricks bring festive joy to some lucky primates
13 December 2010 - Festive cheer can't only be found in shopping malls - the National Zoo will be handing out presents to its ring-tailed lemurs and colobus monkeys. The presents contain all the primates' favourite goodies wrapped up in bright Christmas paper.

Name our gorilla and win with Jacaranda 94.2!
The National Zoo has reopened its gorilla enclosure. All but one of the four gorillas have names. This is the gorilla we'd like to give a name, and we would love for you to help us. Give him a name, and stand a chance to win with Jacaranda 94.2. Comment on the Martin Bester Drive Blog with your suggestion, or sms "gorilla" and your suggestion for a name to 37942.
Have a cuppa for the rhinos!
The National Zoo will be starting a 10-week campaign on Sunday, 28 November 2010 to show our commitment to the fight against rhino poaching. Called the RHINO TEA PARTY, funds will be raised from each cup of tea sold to our visitors during the 10-week period. A percentage of the funds raised will be used for the conservation of our rhino at our two biodiversity conservation centres in both Mokopane and Lichtenburg. The other funds raised will be given to a worthy conservation effort in the fight against rhino poaching. A large rhino made out of 350 plastic hangers has been positioned at the entrance of the zoo to make the public more aware of rhino poaching in SA. Each hanger represents a slain rhino.
