I bought photoshop cs4 like a week ago and someone told me I could have got a "keygen" and got it for free...

What a waste of money... Does the people that get it for free have the same benefits as us paying people?

How do these people make/get keygens?

 

You can download them off websites, Keygens create the serial keys needed to activate your program, such as photoshop. You need to actually download the software as well. How they make them, no clue.

It is illegal though. If there is a raid and they find a keygen/cracked copy of photoshop, you most probably will be fined and sent to jail.

You can download keygens off websites. There are some websites that are purely cracking/keygen websites. No idea how they make them though.

 

They reverse engineer the photoshop exe to find the code inside the executable that checks if the code is accepted or not. They find the algorithm that makes the code and they add it to their own program. This isn't the case with every program, but they're all pretty similar.

You shouldn't feel silly. As I said, if the computer you used is an office computer and the police raid your office, you could be sent to jail with a heavy fine.
