What android phone should I get to develop apps?

I'm looking for a decent used android phone to test and develop android apps. I know nothing about android phones. I'm trying to save money but also I don't want it to be completely outdated lol. All I would be using it for is developing apps.. no calling, texting, etc. I would want it to last for awhile. Suggestions?

Galaxy S4 as they are rather common (or the S5). I might suggest getting a "bricked"/Bad ESN phone. You can still use them for app development but not calling, etc. However, you may still want one that can connect to wireless services later.

LGG3. I have the g2 and love it, but the g3 has a better display at over 1080p. It's like 2k resolution or something. I also think it had a much beefier processor, fairly light for an over 5 inch phone. But for just deving on I am not sure if you're going to find something low cost with a lot of power. What are you developing?

I've had no problems with my s4. With the s5 being out I can't imagine they're too expensive.

Just porting some of my iOS apps over to android. Nothing special.. just a bunch of random apps like a public transit app lol. I don't really care about how the screen looks in terms of resolution, I just need something cheap that can handle the latest API and won't break after a couple of months XD

Also can you guys give approximate prices for a used phone? I'm not really looking to spend over $150 :S

If you're looking to port, why not try a program like BlueStacks or the android development kit? Both should give you theoretical overviews of your program without the worry of bricking a phone out.

What do you mean? I'm using the emulators on android studio currently if thats what you mean. But they load up so slow, a device is so much faster to load and test on.

I just discovered the program Andy the Android Emulator -> I plan on trying it out myself.

Try Bluestacks. It's a pain in the balls due to their obnoxious advertising strategy... but you should theoretically be able to do full application testing on it I believe.

I don't really see what you are saying :p If I am going to use an emulator I am going to use the one inside of the IDE I use to develop the app (Android Studio). The emulator is perfectly fine.. I would just prefer a physical device because emulators take a lot longer to load an app. I am looking to test apps that I am developing (that aren't on the google play store), not apps that are already in existence.
