"I cdnuolt blveiee that I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. I know everyone can read that. So, why is spelling important? I've seen threads in the past stating, "Spelling is must, etc, etc." No, it's not a must. When I first looked at that, I never knew they were scrambled.

I have to struggle to read most of that, and I only WISH that spelling could be enforced here, but simply put, it can't. If it was, we'd have VERY few members, as for most of our members, I still can't figure out how they managed to sign up.

    This is a good point.

spelling is eaiser as the brain reacts much quicker than if its all jumbled.

wrong, the brain doesnt react quicker to jumbled words, its just that your brain reads only the length of the word and the first and last letters of the word and gives you a word you would know

But what if the first and the last letters are not the same >.>

Its more of grammar that people cannot understand.

"Give me on runescape before the fountain rune plate."

Also, some people like to speak "leet" or type like they are really cool, in which case you cannot understand either.

Spelling is not necessary for understandability. It's more like, looking like you're intelligent or something.

Honestly, who would take you seriously if you typed like that? No one would.

all it means is that your brain can still register what word it is as long as the first and last letter are the same and it is the same amount of characters long.

however, that doesn't mean that you can spell wrong intentionally.

This is so old, just because you can read it does not mean you should do it. If you actually spent your time writing like omg I can't c u 2day cuz I r sleppzing then your creditable goes to pot, while if you spell out your words you look like a more intelligent person and you begun to notice your writing skills will improve.

Trust me I used to be lazy but when people call you 12 years old and your really 16 by the way you type you get embarrassed quite easily.

That's not rational. I posted this for one reason, and one reason only: I see people being harassed because of poor spelling -- and some have a reason; they're native language might not be English.

But, CP_ has a sophisticated point -- who would take you seriously if you spelled that way? It's a bad habit to have, but we cannot go harassing people for their flaws.

Why not, I changed the way I typed due to people in Swiftswitch always making fun of me and now I am glad they did.

IF there native language isn't English, they shouldn't be harassed for it.

God damn, that's what I've been trying to stress in the few posts above.

Members don't get harassed because they make minor spelling errors, they get harassed when it looks like vegetable soup was spilled over their post.

Some members do have a native language other than English, that is perfectly fine. But, if you can tell me when someone posts "i cnt wat for u to trd3 me dud, leki sweeet!" and uses the excuse, it's not my native language, that is when members get angry and annoyed.

Like I said, members don't get harassed because they make a few spelling mistakes, they get harassed when members talk in "leetspeak", or purposely spell bad, and trust me, it's very easy to tell between someone making honest typing errors, and someone who just doesn't care.

In the end, spelling is necessary, whether you want to believe it or not.

    Spelling --not necessary

    This is old news.

Edit: Besides, the point behind the research that we can "all read that" is the fact that it is spelled right just assembled in a different order. It's a completely different story if somebody spells using words like "cen" and "noe", words like that are just unnecessary. Words usually used to make typing easier for the person, so they don't have to strain their little fingers as much. Yet, if you actually took the time to write out some of these words you'd realize that they take longer to spell then spelling it in order because you have to stop and double check that they contain all the letters they are supposed to contain.

Yes i could read that. But it would take alot less time if it was all spelt correctly.

And technically, you where still spelling. In your own little way.
