This is a discussion thread on the beatles vs stones, not simply which you prefer but who think made the biggest impact musically AND who you prefer.

I personally think the beatles made more impact musically, their albums touched on many genres and were really progressive for their time. However the stones got that stipped down rock and roll sound that almost sounds dirty. The stones take the cake for me personally.

So who do you prefer, why and who do you think influenced modern music more?

The Beatles definitely have a further reaching influence I'd say. As far as my favorite I'm not an avid listener of either so it's hard to say really. I enjoy both and they've both have had an equal influence on my personal music. I'd probably lean towards later Beatles recordings and the early to mid Stones stuff.

I may be a little biased. Dead Flowers was one of my first songs on acoustic guitar, grew up on the stones. I love Beatles dont get me wrong but as you mentioned I prefer their later stuff.

We are on same page as far as beatles having a further reaching influence. But the stones were edging proto punk imo.

What happened to this thread? Looks like someone came through an wiped it out. I'll repost an interesting idea: the Kinks are the proto-punk band, in my opinion.

The got pretty fast and they look a lot like the ramones lol. I could kinda see that lol

But the stones had the style and attitude. Keith Richards.

Never really given the stones a listen, what albums would you recommend?

Much love for the beatles though, especially revolver.

Given your interest in psychedelic id suggest "satanic majesties request". The sorta veered off their rhythm and blue roots rock style and experimented a bit.

Let it bleed and sticky fingers (esp. Sticky fingers) are more true to their style. A really good song by them is dead flowers. Kinda folky though.

Beatles created a way bigger effect in my opinion, since their music is more popular and trending to society as a whole, while although Rolling Stones changed Rock n Roll, there is a limited group out there of rock enthusiasts
