Sythe, Please do something about the Java-Drive Byes

EDIT: Stop telling me to stop clicking links I see. I don't click links. This just happens at random while being on Sythe. Stop flamming just to +1 your post count.

Posted this thread in the Community General, but for some reason, it was never made viewable.

I feel like people should know this, and that Sythe should find a way to correct this. Idk how it's happening, but I heard on RsWiki they had them in the advertisment pictures.

Here is the picture of my 4th Java-Drive Bye. They have all downloaded; however, I have removed them all shortly after with MalwareBytes

There's nothing we can do about newcomers posting drive-by links. Sythe doesn't want to restrict posting rights just because your new, thats stupid.

It's your own common sense not to run Java applets if you dont know WTH it is, yet alone clicking a link posted by a newcomer.

It's completely your own fault that he got you infected in the first place.

    Don't click affected links.

There's nothing sythe can do about it but banned all users , which is obviously stupid.

But you don't fucking click a link, it just happens.

I've had this happen 3 times now.

I'm reading a thread like this, then at the top of the browser a bar will come down saying "you need to update to view this page" or something to that affect. Of course i know I don't need that but it still dls without clicking it.

So unless I'm missing something, it seems to randomly happen from clicking on threads.

I never clicked on a link, always copy n paste.

I don't click on links guys. This just randomly happens all the time on Sythe. I do not download or accept anything. The Java thing suddenly pops up and infects me.

I have AVG and MalewareBytes and it still automatically downloads.

Sounds like you were infected once, and have never been able to fully clean your system.

    I recommended you reformat.

MalwareBytes is pretty damn good at finding them.

The thing is, this never happens to me when I'm just cruising the internet on ESPN or sports sites; however, when I've been on Sythe it's now happened 4 times.

This guy has experienced it too. And it has been happening on RSwiki.

This. More then likely your computer was infected before, and you will get these viruses probably every time you scan your computer, cause Malware is a cheap program. For your own computer safety buy some anti-virus software. Not free ones.

I only scan my computer to get rid of them AFTER they have happened.

They never happen immediately after a scan.

Malware is free, but it is far from "cheap." From what I have heard and read, MalwareBytes is one of the best anti-malware programs around.

Also, these aren't keyloggers are they? They just seem like malware to me. Am I at risk of being hacked because of these? Keep in mind I never log into anything until Malware has removed them.

You should do a full system scan of your computer every 2 weeks or so. Whether you think you have a virus or not.

If you care about your privacy that is.

I reformatted, cleaned my computer fully, and still have the same problem as the OP. The virus folder is called spssdyros or something. If you get it again go to Windows Task Manager, Processes, and find it.

Use the Noscript addon for firefox or uninstall java and run runescape from the client.

    tl;dr

This does NOT just happen at random on Sythe. For you to be infected by a java drive-by you need to have accepted a Java application warning.

e.g; You must have clicked a link. Don't tell me you didn't because I used to do this shit all the time.

Firefox + noscript + adblock plus will take care of these drive-bys.
