Something needs to be done about the "Runescape Account Rentals & Other Services" Section

Big support, I've talked to a few people who have been scammed and the scanner says something along the lines of "Report me, i'll just make a new account under a new ip"

 

The sad part about this is the fact that people keep falling for it. There's rules, stickies, guidelines, official middlemans, a public report section, but no, let's trade the guy with 3 posts and same day join date.

 

Currently the only stickies that remotely help newcomers in the account rental section are these:

We highly recommend recording yourself at all times during rentals! - This does not help with scam prevention, it only helps with reporting after you have been scammed

https://www.sythe.org/threads/blacklisted-rental-accounts-do-not-rent-these-accounts/unread - This mildly helps with scam prevention, but in this section you will have to pay a deposit (2m+) To find out the login details, and once you get the login details, you are on a time limit.

I think this is a classic case of hindsight being 20/20. As a recent newcomer, it's easy to be unaware on how this website works, how forums work, or what exactly to look for to find someone trusted.

Any type of Middleman use is not applicable to this section.

There are no rules or guidelines in this section to help people brand new to Sythe or even forums in general to understand the dangers of account rentals and how to spot someone who isn't trustworthy.

When i first joined Sythe I only came here to buy and sell codes and rent a maxed main. Typically you just want to go in and out of a deal. Not stick around and look at every forum section.

(I've been a part of and moderated forums for the past 10 years, and you've been here since 2012, so it seems like common knowledge to do background checks and know what to look for I.E post count, vouches, activity, join date, username searches)

Also I'm just addressing some points here. Not arguing with you or anything, I agree that it's sad and people do not take proper precautions before going into deals.

 

I agree with the 100 post count and 2 week old requirement. It's almost impossible for a new member to make more money providing a legitimate service than scamming.

 

You sue anyone you want for any reason. Doesn't mean you'll win lol

I definitely agree that something should be done to help prevent these kinds of scams, but it won't be easy to come up with a solution that fits well with Sythe's free market paradigm.

 

Thanks for the suggestion, this wont be approved because blah blah free market blah blah people should only trade people they trust.

Try to think of ways to do it so it wouldnt hinder new users from coming into the marketplace and trying it.
