To be honest, most borders kill the flow of signatures and you should avoid using them... framing the area with a block of colour cuts it off.
Also, try not to place random horizontal and vertical lines across your work (mainly the second one) as this also limits the flow.
Some areas are over-sharpened.
Your light source doesn't even remotely compliment the lighting on the stock in the first one... so that's a pretty big downfall.
And there is no definite light source in the second one... it appears that the whole BG desgn is just put on a really high glow- so instead of whoring the glow, create a lightsource and adjust the rest of the signature to suit.
