    Hi there,

Looking for some advice from maybe some IT savvy people on what i should do?

    Quick backstory,
A year ago graduated with a 2:2 in Computer Networks from university since then i've just been doing odd jobs and so on, now i actually want to get into a job to do with my field so heres the issues im facing:

    1) Forgot everything to do with my course and think i lost the passion for networking (i think picked the wrong course to start off with)

    2) So i have no experience, lack of motivation and skills to apply for IT jobs

Just curious what i should do as i feel very lost and confused, all these jobs i look at on job sites have required and desired skills which i read about and have no clue what some of the things are.

    Appreciate any help thanks!

I didn't do a course necessarily in your specific industry but as an entrepreneur I know a lot of people who do you kind of work

Your best option for now (depending on your financial situation) may be to continue working stable jobs with some relevance to your field so you can develop a strong CV and/or portfolio. While doing this you could try doing freelance jobs on the side for small businesses and individuals who seek your expertise.

I can totally relate to choosing the wrong course at university. Uni has been my Plan B sort of say, so for me its not been a major priority. Although I have chosen to focus and twist my past qualifications and experience into a future plan. At the end of the day its whatever you make of it, and if you can try and gain some experience/knowledge in the fields you wish you had chosen, then try to find away to stir in that direction.

For me, I chose a joint Hons in Media and Film & TV, and the media side was the "wrong decision" as i was simply really into media before Uni. I am learning mandarin chinese, and was doing so alongside my course too to give myself a new direction.

I am business orientated and have been making money online for almost a decade (of and on, and to various levels of income before 2015, and only properly the past 2-3 years)

My plan is to continue developing mandarin as a second language and work in asia. I understand that I may have to take an ordinary job in china due to visa regulations, and I will do this as a stepping stone towards my end goal of running an export company over there.

I feel i've just rambled a bit but I hope you get something useful from this. If anything just try to think of 1 or 2 end goals for your career, and then try to find stepping stones to getting there, rather than trying to dive headfirst into your ideal end goal

It seems we both had a change in heart based on our course decisions, so that could also happen with our career vision, so its best to take these steps just incase an opportunity comes up and you end up loving it

Yeah appreciate it, i can relate you choose to do something and you have started it, so might as well finish it than quit, but then it may not be your end goal, appreciate the reply!

Depending on the odd jobs you've done, maybe try emphasizing your soft skills more. I used to work in finance, graduated with a finance degree and now work for a Real Estate SaaS company.

Most large companies will provide you with technical training and don't expect you to know anything about their software. They want to see that you have the ability to learn, adapt and communicate with their clients if needed. I'm not sure what odd jobs you've done but if they aren't relevant at all, maybe try starting out in a tech support role or try talking to your school's career services they might have some connections or better advice.
