Legal Status / Consequences (in Canada) for Marijuana

Hey, simple question.. I was just wondering what the Legal Status / Consequences are for Marijuana, IN CANADA.
No, I don't smoke weed, nor do I plan to. It's just for health class.

It's technically "illegal" but any Canadian citizen would know that's bullshit.
Ex. My friend got caught with Marijuana and the cops just took it away, no fines or anything.

You can get dick cops, but most of them won't bother you. Canadian police know there are more important things to be doing than harassing people over a harmless plant.

Heard that so many times now, haha. Yeah, they have coffeeshops around Amsterdam and other big cities in The Netherlands. But this thread isn't about Amsterdam. I don't know much about Canadian laws, though.

 

Its like that almost everywhere in the world... it just depends on the amount. Under 1/2 ounce nothing will happen, charges will most likely be dropped. 1/2 ounce - an ounce, is about 30 days in jail, but you can get out of it if you got a good lawyer. an ounce or more. Your going to prison.

Ex. I got caught with an 1/8th and got all charges dropped

 

I live in B.C., slackest province on marijuana in a country that is notoriously slack on marijuana
The cops will rarely take any action against you past just taking it away and lighting it up themselves

And yeah, I think its just a "slap on the wrist" unless the cop is a doucher.

 

I live near Toronto which is the biggest city in Canada. I've never actually been caught with weed but I know people who have, and as Daily said, its mostly just a slap on the wrist, unless the cop is a doucher.

 

Ya unless the cop is a dick who is just trying to give you a hard time you might get into some trouble but they usually tolerate it. However it is not legal here.
