So, what do you think of incest?

You think it's disgusting? Or do you think it's completely fine?

Don't tell me, "Let people do whatever they want with their lives." If you're indifferent, don't post. I want to hear from people with an opinion.

Edit: When I say incest, I tend to mean between a brother and a sister (for example), rather than between cousins.

In today's society incest is simply not acceptable. Even marrying someone in your remote family isn't really approved of.

It's unhealthy to activate sex drive with people who you should love platonically and be able to go to for advice for the rest of your life that aren't your peers.

I would say the main problem, however, is the potential for abuse as people in families are different ages.

If the two of them are over 18 and fully consent... Why not? If they feel attracted to each other, let them have their way. I would never, for any money in the world, engage in incest myself, but it's their choice really.

EDIT: they HAVE to use contraceptives though. I don't have to clarify that I assume

So, what do you think of incest?

Historically incest has played a big role in society. Look at the Royal Families of ALL of Europe - during the middle ages they were all committing incest to keep the political power in the same general lineage. Incest is a more modernly recognized taboo, for reasons unknown to me (probably has something to do with the Victorians and the move to a more democratic society from the classical aristocratic societies.) and I don't condone it but if two consenting adults love each other then that is fine with me. I feel the same way about marriage and sexual activity in general. If it is two consenting adults then it is completely fine.

Why should you love them platonically?

Not necessarily. I mean, between a brother and a sister, around 2-4 years age difference. Would you mind?

Neither would I, but this is exactly what I didn't ask for above. I don't see, "Let them have their own way, it's their life," as a good argument because I can say that for many other things, even though some are almost certainly inappropriate (example - running on the street naked). The question here is what YOU think about it, not if you don't mind other people doing it.

And yes, of course they'd use contraceptives. To say they can't get married because their children might have disorders is like saying a man and a woman both carrying one of the 2 alleles for sickle cell anemia should never get married (since there is a chance their child could be born with the disease), even though they're in love with each other. There are other ways to get kids.

It may not be good but i do not disagree, i agree with it and it should be fine,
even though it is not good, i had feelings for my niece and she had it for me but we only spoke about it privately, and we decided we won't move any further, that is for us personally, i don't think that it should be taboo.

L2read OP stop spamming these with forums with stupid replied.

My god. This is pretty hard to answer I guess. I mean, I don't think it's right in any way.

    Why I think this..
I guess it just goes against life's morals and over-time it's known to be bad and unhealthy for all. (Genetic defects and other problems that come with mixing the same genes together)

So, what do you think of incest?

First, thank you for actually reading my first post.

Second, I want to understand why it's against life morals. Getting unhealthy offspring is not an excuse. We know that the issue of offspring can be easily solved through other methods than plain sex (look at homosexual couples, for example, or couples that have genetic diseases, or infertile people). The same excuse applies to these homosexuals, couples with genetic diseases, infertile people, and even incest - if they're in love, then they should be able to get married, right?

Note that I'm in no way with incest. I just want to extend the argument further by playing some devil's advocate.

So, what do you think of incest?

I believe society has made alot of things that people use to not look twice upon become taboo. Alot of societies have had no issues with seeing this kind of things in the past. We are so set on how the world is "suppose" to be that it is hard for us to think anything else besides what we grew up with could be right.

This is also why people are racist, sexist, and display hatred against stuff that doesn't affect them. All my opinion anyway

if the arguement is against a child that is mutated I believe if we can't already fix any or most problems we are not far from it.

tl;dr yes it is okay as long as it isn't affecting others negatively...I would not do it because I grew up thinking it is wrong and it is wired into me like this like many others, but ones doing it should not be shunned.

    ... Shit.
I don't know, it's grown through society, developed into our minds.
It is an excuse, because even with the other methods, doesn't mean they will do it. They need to have sexual pleasure or nothing will work out. Oh sure, use birth control and such, right? It's not always 100%.

It's smarter to leave them not be able to get married due to the criticism, hate and all that jazz that would happen to them. That's how people go "crazy", I guess.
Dude, I'm 16. I'm going off on nothing, just how my mind thinks, really.

So, what do you think of incest?

How can you extend the argument further, incest is know to produce genetic disorders when committed through many generations, which is why most sisters/brothers are unable to look at each other that way and why its taboo in modern society. Its the same shit as drinking when you are pregnant, its taboo because it causes birth defects.

So, what do you think of incest?

Yes, but it still does occur in our modern society, it's just greatly suppressed - much like how homosexuality was once suppressed in our society as well (although, not to that extent).

I'm extending the argument because I'm saying the reason being that they aren't allowed to have offspring (due to a higher chance of genetic diseases) is not a good one. We all know homosexuals, infertile people, and people that carry genetic diseases cannot have offspring, yet does that mean we should deny them the possibility of getting married, and having a sexual life? I thought the whole viewpoint on marriage was that if two people were in love, they should be able to get married. What's the difference between a brother and a sister, then?

I think it's fine. I do not think people should have kids with family members though, it leads to too many birth defects and mental illness. Then, the children are just a burden on everybody else.

So, what do you think of incest?

Okay, but homosexuality was once grown into our minds as being wrong (and homosexual couples were heavily criticized), and now people are more willing to accept it. So, being instilled as wrong in our minds doesn't make it morally wrong.

Of course nothing's 100% in protecting against getting a child, but we cannot prevent people that could get diseased children from having a sexually active life (such as the case of those with genetic diseases). There are more ways to prevent conception other than birth control - condoms, removing uterus, vasectomy, physical prevention during sex, or even if conception occurs, a karyotype can do done, and if there aren't any strict abortion laws, abortion can occur.

And it's okay, just speak off of your mind, I want to hear opinions ;)

Yes, okay, but you do mind them having a sexually active life? Also, would you mind if you were experiencing this yourself - like your friend and his/her sister/brother kissing in front of you?

If they both consent why not?

Conception shouldn't be a factor though. There are too many problems with instinctual offspring, not to mention the current social taboo of incest.

So, what do you think of incest?

Prior to the advent of birth control, incestuous relationships would likely have resulted in offspring. Because the resultant children would have a higher rate of deformity, it was advantageous to copulate only with distant relatives; hence, this quality would be selected for. This natural opposition felt cannot be combated by simply ensuring that deformed children are not created because this feeling is not a conscious choice--it is an evolutionary one.

So, what do you think of incest?

Yes, I understand your point of why it's viewed as taboo in our modern day society.

This is still dodging the other question though. If a brother and sister have already passed this evolutionary barrier (which does occur in real life), would you mind them getting married?
