Do not allow essay/assignment writing services.

Hey all. The point of this thread is to try to convince you to disallow services for essays and other assignments. You may see the whole thing as providing a nice, clean service to other users, but in reality it is grade A academic plagiarism. Now, I'm not one of those pseudo-intellectuals claiming that fabricating school marks is immoral in the act itself, as I take the whole high school thing pretty lightly; however, the practical immorality of plagiarism is that - by your inflated marks - you may take the place of another more talented and willed individual when applying to a university, as his grade simply cannot stand up to that of a professional service. Is that really fair?

What I suggest you do: As a compromise, I suggest you do not allow full essays and assignments being written, but do allow essay and assignment help--and this can be in the form of services. This would be similar to a tutor.

It's there choice. It isn't plagiarism if they sold them the usage rights.

People take the place of more talented individuals all the time; it's called a racial quota, all universities do it. Is that really fair?

If you needed an 10k word essay or something like that and you had NO idea how to do it, what would you do? I would use someone on here, but that is just my opinion. I think that they are doing good helping people who need help with their homework. No support, sorry.

 

People are taking steps to getting rid of that, and are you saying you'd like to further erode the system just because it already has certain flaws? Is that very rational?

Yes it is. Do you know what plagiarism is? And did you completely ignore the consequences I outlined in my post?

You would get a tutor or a mentor to help you. How would you feel if you destroy someone's chance at university? Look beyond the immediate implications.

 

Yes it is. If you take the work of someone else and hand it in as your own, it's plagiarism.

That said, I don't necessarily think that it should be disallowed.

I completely agree with this, although, It really depends on the type of paper being written. Maybe disallow final or term papers to be written, and only helped?

 

I suppose that would be a start, but it still contributes greatly to your overall average.

If someone is happy to pay for an essay and someone is happy to write the essay for the agreed amount I don't see a problem other than the morality of it. No support.

This is the exact problem I was addressing....If you don't think acting immorally is wrong, well, that's very bad.

 

Why give us a lecture on morality when we don't really care? That's all well and good that you do not want to cheat, that's your perogative. Don't take part in it. If you're so against cheating then you really shouldn't be on this site to begin with.

No support, it's their paper they can sell it. No matter what type of content it is, it's basically like selling a guide if you think about it, except the person buying is turning it in as their own work.
