    So I bought a mac....

    and it crashes more than my 6-year-old PC. How do I optimise the performance of my Mac and how much will it cost me? It's a macbook 13-inch if that will help. Also, is there a 'My Computer' equivalent on the Mac? How do I find it?

    I've heard that bad ram can be a major cause of macs crashing. Try running an apple hardware test. Or maybe try the repair disk . Hope this helps

    I think 'Finder' is the 'My Computer' of apples.

    I may be wrong.

    yep finder is my comp
    if its crashing do this

    finder--->utilities----> disk utility ---> the top disk selection (eg mine says 250.6GB WDc...)
    ----> verify disk permissions ----> repair disk permission -----> repair disk

    while its repairing disk, DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE COMPUTER!
    let it do its thing

    after thats done : shut down and switch back on (dont restart the mb cos the hard disk doesnt restart)

    Alright, I re-installed OS-X and then repaired the disk and I haven't had any problems. Thanks everyone for the help, it's appreciated :)
