How to "Jerk"

This is my first guide that I will be creating,
So please take it easy on me ^_^
But also, tips on how to improve will be much appreciated.

What is jerking?

For those who don't know what Jerking is,
It's a type of dancing, that has become really popular in Hip-Hop.
Started on the west coast, mainly in Los Angeles,
Then eventually spread throughout the nation.
You may notice a jerk crew by their "different" color clothing.


What type of music goes with it?

When you jerk, you have to get a feel for the beat,
You can't jerk to let's say Fireflies, or Clocks.
You need a song that has a fast beat,
Gets that adrenaline going you know?
So I'll post a few youtube links on some songs.

What do you wear?
As some of you know, people who jerk tend to wear skinny jeans,
And colors that make them stand out (ex. Purple, Yellow, Orange)
So I will show you some pictures of what they wear:





Now on to the tutorial part of this...

How to "Reject"
The reject is one of the easier moves in jerking,
It's basically the runningman, except backwards.
First off, you want to start on one leg, the other in about a 45 degree angle as shown.


Then, you want to fall back on the leg that is in the 45 degree angle.


Then, hop up on the one you just fell back on, and now have the other leg in a 45 degree angle.


Keep repeating these steps until you get it down, then you'll be a rejecting pro in no time

How to "Jerk"
This is a pretty simple move, but it can be difficult if you don't do it right.

So basically, when you jerk all your doing is moving your thighs side-to-side. Start with one leg out in front of the other, with a decent amount of space between your feet -- like a foot and a half away from each other, and just move your thighs. But, you can't just stand there and do that, you have to get low with it, almost to the point where your sitting on your heels.


Then to mix it up a little switch sides while you are jerking


How to "Dip"
By far the easiest move in jerking,
All your doing is basically bending your knees out,
While going on your toes.

Good guide. You didn't put too many colors, used a decent font and added lots of pictures and videos to keep it interesting. The layout's also nice, and you used the center option quite well. A few typos though.

I was actually planning on editing and add other moves like the pin drop, shuffle, phantom walk, etc. but i'll work on that without the day

The "Jerk" is basically leaning more towards one side and moving the opposite thigh.

So for example, say you lean toward your right foot, you would shake/move your thigh to jerk.

'Jerk' is really not a great name for a dance. I had to laugh throughout the thread, showing immense maturity on my part.

OT: The guide was well laid out, and easy to understand. The use of pictures to illustrate each frame of a move was executed well. Also, a basic font, little colour use and thread centering made it a pleasure to read.

Danm, two of my friends do this shit. I remember when i first saw that shit i was like it's dudes jogging backwards in one position, shit's ridiculous. Do it in front of white girls tho and it scares em off.

I respect it tho, most of jerkers dress fresh, just not into the skinny jeans. You wanna keep jerking or get that real thing jerked you gonna need something more suitable.

 

I enjoyed reading this guide. I've heard friends from school speak about it and have never had a full idea on what it is. It explains things reasonably well and gave me the basic idea on the topic. Format-wise it looks great. Pictures and videos are of course convenient for reader. The one thing which could use improvement is increasing the amount of text.

The pictures can be a little misinterpretive, it'd be nice to incorporate video into your guide so people can more clearly see the slow motion proccess of those certain dance moves. Otherwise, great guide.

 

i jerk all day long, i dont do it while i dance tho..
