Slave HDD Help

Ok, so I'm trying to install a slave HDD in this old computer of mine.

The thing is though, There isn't a spare power clip for me to plug in.

Would it be possible to unplug the one from the optical drive (if I just don't use it) and use that?

Also, whats a good external HDD with USB connection.

 

Kind of weird you don't have an extra power thing. Usually they have 4-6...

 

I dont think ur primary HD will work if u dont have the jumper setting to MASTER...

So i think its best to find or buy a new clip

 

yes you can disconnect (while the power is off) the power cable from an optical drive and use it in the HDD but as mentioned before the jumpers must be setup the HDD with the operating system must be set to Master and the slave must be set to Slave or CS (cable select) if you get the error NTDLR is missing (or something like that) then check your jumper configuration and im assuming that this is ATA not Serial ATA HDD

 

Yep, it's ATA, and I have the jumpers set to slave.
