Skype Two Factor Authentication Requirement.

I support this idea, I just have one question: Say I log into skype set this all up with a new live skype acc. After that's all good I log onto skype with my computer, enter the 6 digit code and then log off. Say the next day I login again from the SAME computer, do I still have to enter the 6 digit key as it was already entered before?

 

YES you do, no matter how long, there is no "remember this device" or anything like that. EVen in two seconds, you would have to re-enter your Auth code


For the record the 6 digit key RESETS every 30 seconds to a new random key based on your computer and its current local time, etc. I have noticed that from the time it takes to login with user/pass, open app and get 6 digit key, then enter it and log out again, they 6 digit code has already reset itself.

 

To be fair though Seph, if you have two-factor on Sythe.org, isn't requesting a PM within Skype on Sythe.org effectively two-factor auth?

 

No, all you need is a skype account to scam a few people. You can easily get around others requesting a pm by using some social engineering, deception and the mannerisms of the person you hacked.

 

This is Incorrect. I have just recently set up 2 factor authentication on my skype. I can now log into my skype using my email or my skype ID. I dont use live:

 

Please let me know how, because if so I'll do it now. As far as I'm aware, using my skype ID bypasses the 2FA.

 

There will always be a way to SE depending on the person you are trading with.

I believe you are missing the point of the suggestion. THe suggestion is to REQUIRE a live: handle on skype for people who use Skype to trade here at Sythe. Thus, you wouldn't be able to bypass the 2FA because your skype handle is created by the Microsoft Acct.

Also, Vic, you cannot SE a 2FA account, because you would still need that user's physical mobile device to have the code, to login.

There should be no reason why a legitimate Marketer on Sythe would not opt to use this method to trade using Skype to prevent them from being hijacked.

 

I got hundreds of contacts on my skype that I would have to add again on my other skype that I would create. I would also lose 2 years of skype premium (vouchers)

This was my first concern originally. I did not want to transfer all my contacts but I just did it somehow.

I don't think we should FORCE people to use a "live:" Skype ID.

Just give them an option to do it but it's not a must.

 

Yeah you may be right to not force it, but its all together a lot more secure, and I personally would rather trade with a 2FA'd Skype than with someone who doesn't use it. My opinion though

 

K so after the recent events, I dont mind creating another account. Its better having a safe account than an account that can be hacked and I have to repay hundreds or thousands. Even if I lose my vouchers.. I might lose more money if hacked.

Everyone should do it.

We know that a hacker can't steal my password and log in, but can he still contact the skype live support and claim to be me and hack me that way? That's how most skype hackings occur right?

 

There would be no reason that a Live SUpport Agent would ever need to remove the 2FA from the account, nor do I think they can. They might reset the password, but even still, the hacker would need your mobile device to fully log in

 

It took me 5 hours to be finally done but im happy with it. I changed all my threads GFX on more than 4 forums. I changed my signatures, user title, ... I messaged all my contacts to tell them : add my new skype. I went over all the 600 contacts and added the ones I talked to, friends, business people, ... it was long but it was worth it. I will now be on my 2 skypes for a couple days and then ima be all the way on new skype. I lost 2 vouchers and hundreds of contacts but idc. I saved the contacts that was necessary and if they want to add me, they can. Also, its way better cause im safer now. btw guys
