Before getting to the idea, here's a quick example:

    http://www.sythe.org/dispute-forum-archive/1533647-requesting-pardon.html

While this doesn't directly relate to the suggestion, how often are threads approved day(s) after they were actually posted? This shortens the opportunity for someone to be pardoned.

The "Collective approach" currently states for phase 1:

The pardon can be denied. Does that mean it has to be denied? No. However, moderators will come close pardons after 7 days, without even reading them and giving a simple "Support" or "No Support".

Members of staff do have lives, and with everything else (both on-and-off Sythe) it may be hard to read, and actually provide their input on pardons.

    The Actual Suggestion:
Remove (or greatly increase) the 7 days that a user has to gather support. If it gains support of 5 members, it will be moved to voting; while if it gets 5 staff members who don't support, it will be denied. In either scenario, admins would still be able to veto any pardon.
This not only gives users a more fair chance, but doesn't pressure moderators into making a hasty decision (providing they give any input at all.)

    TLDR;
    Thoughts?

I think that if you're looking to make the pardon system more favorable to the people posting the pardons, punishing them by resetting their 6-month limitation is pretty harsh. I would hardly consider posting a pardon in 5 months instead of 6 "wasting staff time". So I don't support that part of your suggestion, but I would support increasing the length of time people have to gain support for their pardon to 10 days or 2 weeks.

That one thread that took 6 days to be approved was a very very unusual example, almost all threads are approved within 24 hours of their posting

Support, when someone known posts a pardon all the staff post on it as soon as possible but when it is just a unknown person who posts a pardon they always get forgotten.

I support this, since those more unknown folks are simply ignored and I find it rather saddening. Equal opportunities for everyone!

Support, But are mods seeing a pardon they don't support and just don't post at all or they see the persons name and just decided to ignore it completely?

I'll admit that when I am unfamiliar with a case, I tend to keep away from it unless the user/any mod requests that I take a look at it.

I'm all for increasing the waiting period as I have always felt 7 days is too short. (Though often ignored when there is an active discussion going on or nobody realised it was out of time)

I support removing the time limit to receive support, I'd rather see "No support"

Fully support of extending or removing the time line of 7 days. I have seen some pardons swept to the bottom or other pages. I think that mods should at least post no support if they dont support the pardon i have looked through pardons before and seen a few mods looking at the same ones i am and then they get no responses. So Support Hi Tmoe

I support the removal, the staff should have to either support or not support. It will make staff have to post, rather than ignoring stuff.

The idea of going past 7 days is denied. If you cant get support in 7 days then ten or 14 isnt going to change anything. Forcing staff to post is also denied.

This is rather an offshoot, but I still think the best way to get mods to be active as far as pardons are concerned, is to give them a modlog value. It's a huge incentive to get things done and I don't see the harm - staff are still obligated to use proper judgement and not spam, else they would be punished/demoted modlogs or no.

Support, lengthier time of the Pardon being open is better.

I support it up to 10 days. And perhaps staff could also check the section more often.

Denied, more days isnt going to change anything and this would twist the original intention of pardons
