Need help accepting Bitcoin as a payment and converting it to cash.

Hello Sythe members and staff,
I am wanting to start accepting Bitcoin as a currency for payments but don't know what to do. I will be willing to pay someone $5 paypal to explain everything to me or provide me with the info I seek. I will verify this info to be true before paying.
I have a bitcoin wallet on Blockchain, and only know how to send and receive payments with the code it gives. Below is a list of questions I need help with.


1. How can I correctly see the current value of BTC to USD? I've seen multiple sites on Google but they're all a few $ off. Are they even accurate?

2. How can I convert my BTC to cash with as little fees as possible. Any recommendations?

3. Is Blockchain.info safe to accept/send payments, if not why and do you have any recommendations for me.

Bitcoin prices are constantly changing. Since the year started bitcoins have seen prices as low as $180 and as high as $300.

I think Bitstamp is the most accurate price, it's what your wallet uses (or something very close). Google's price on bitcoins are very close to Bitstamp. I have no idea what BTC-E is for and who bases their price on it.

There's a section for it. It should sell pretty quick for Bitstamp price. The problem is the payment method you will be accepting. There probably is a better alternative to converting it to cash so leave this part open in case of better suggestions.

No clue how safe sites are, big ones have been hacked in the past. I use blockchain however.

1. There is no one current conversion value. There are several bitcoin exchanges and the exchange rates may vary.

2. I would suggest waiting until you gather up a non-trivial amount of BTC and then sell in bulk (500€, 1000€). You can use one of many BTC exchanges on the web, do a Google search. What I used to do was sell BTC for real life cash, there's actually a site dedicated to this and the money you get is untracable.

3. I would suggest you use your own wallet if you're trading with significant amounts. Millions of dollars worth of BTC were lost by hacks, wallet closures etc. That being said, if you're not trading huge volumes, an online wallet might be more pravtical.

Please realise that BTC is volatile which means the exchange rate has been known to vary a lot. By keeping money in BTC you are essentially investing in the currency. If you want to get the current market price for the services you offer, then cash out ASAP after receiving the coins.

I know the general parts of BTC, I need more info about them and that's what this thread is for. What sites, I need names.

Coinbase.com is a good website to set up a free wallet. You can buy and sell btc there.

They all have their flaws, the price varies slightly on different exchanges and therefore are reported differently.

I've found this chart helpful since it tracks data from different sites.

Coinbase.com and Circle.com are the big names right now. Also of course there are alternatives such as trading here on sythe.

There are safer ways, but I won't get into details to avoid boring you or overwhelming you with technical information. If you're trading thousands in bitcoins on a daily basis you can find more information online about keeping your wallet completely secure in an offline backup.

For your purposes yes, Blockchain.info is relatively safe and secure enough to use although its never a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. If you found yourself putting more than say 10 bitcoins there consider keeping some in other places, but that'll just depend on preference.

I personally use and recommend electrum client, its a light desktop and mobile client that has easy backup and recovery. It doesn't have to download a huge file of the blockchain, etc. Earlier you were questioning what a wallet is, basically its just a piece of software where you can send and receive (and "store") bitcoins.
