Signature sizes.

I have been noticing a lot of people who overdo their signatures which exceed the maximum allowed sizes, when you click on edit signature: http://www.sythe.org/profile.php?do=editsignature it shows this beneath the signature

But when n4n0 changes peoples signatures to his special one, it states 650x300px. I believe we should edit the note underneath the signature if the current rule is 650x300 and to make the text a little larger so it's more easily noticeable, maybe even add on the note "This includes, any text within your signature + the size of your image"

This will avoid any potential warnings/infractions to people when they update their signature.

 

n4n0's custom signature image is the right one. The signature size limits are 650 x 350. The one you see on the signature page is incorrect, its much better to link an image over rather than try to upload one to the site.

The "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). " note on the signature page should be changed to 650 x 350 though. However the dimensions on that one are smaller than the current so they shouldn't be causing oversized signatures anyway.

 

It's actually 650x350,but yeah I'll look into it, and if I can't change it, I'll contact matt or sythe about that and have it changed.

I got a warning about my signature but there's hundreds of people with such larger signatures. I just don't understand it.

 

better yet sythe could impliment some programming like just about every other site has had for years that either
A. forces the size down to an acceptable size,
or
B. decline any signatures that try to be uploaded and get rid of the linking images

it's not like storage space is expensive and from what I've read and seen on this site before I was a member sythe doesn't use the donations for the site hardly at all especially at the amount of donations that come in.

 

I always refer people to checking the rules for signatures. Now I also believe that 650x350 is right and fine. I guess all we need is the rules updated.

Oh and your saying sythe doesn't use the money for the site is a joke of a comment. Sythe has to pay for alot more than you realize. I'm guessing that's why you haven't donated? The donations come in alot more due to allowing PayPal donations.

tbh need a system to not let you save your sig if its over limt, b/c i cant tell if im past limit or not.

 

It'd be very difficult to add some sort of automatic 'rule' to the signature system that stops you having a signature bigger than the limits are. It probably is possible, but it would take a lot of time and coding to do.

 

Make an image 650x350.

Open it in windows photo viewer.

Put it over your sig

I don't believe we need an automated system, it's quite simple to see how large your signature is really.. 650x350 maximum, with no extra text. Like I said the rules are simple to abide by, but we just need to update them so erryone knows what the actual ruling for signature Sizing is.

And laptop, it's not that it'd take a lot of time, it's just unnecessary to have due to the fact that what we have implemented now with great cause of action - works fine.

i made a paint phot 650x350 yet it is smaller then the your sig is to big sig you gave that other guy.

 

Or right click image, open image in new tab, hover mouse over the tab for sizing?

 

That only shows image size. Doesn't include text, which is included in the size restrictions. Signature cannot exceed 650x350 pixels, text included. As for the 650px width, normally that can be overlooked as long as it's not drastically oversized. It's the height that will get you hemmed up quick, fast, and in a hurry, as it unnecessarily stretches the page.

I just clearly addressed/stated both of your comments, so you're just spamming at this point.

Text pads/stretches itself with different browser sizes. This rule is in place to not fill the screen of users w/ lower resolution screens. Text width is irrelevant as changing screen/monitor size just causes it to pad down to the next row. This does not happen w/ images, and goes back to what I've previously stated. WIDTH normally gets overlooked, as long as it's not excessive.

 

So what's the lowest resolution that signature limits will apply to? I'm not sure many people are on 800x600 these days. I'm on 1920x180 and nothing looks too tall / wide for me.

Who originally made the signature size rule, and what resolution did they base it off? (if you can find that out)
