I have recently watched the Movie sicko and I find it to be one of the most eye opening films I have seen in a very long time. I live in Canada so it was hard for me to understand just how bad the American health care system really is. My question is. What do you Americans think about the state of your health care system. I have nothing against American whatsoever, I just feel horrible that you have to deal with a situation like that. If you have not seen the movie I HIGHLY suggest you go out and get it.

Our system is far better than yours. Michael Moore is an ignorant fool who twists everything to meet his obsurd views. Cuba's system sucks, smaller countries may be successful, but simply because of their size, and on a large scale, the US kicks the ass of all Universal Health Care systems with a similar size.

EDIT: Take all of those stupid vouches out of your sig. They make your sig a violation of the rules (2 Points for it) and nobody really cares about all the leechers that vouched for you.

God gnomey, hoped you used vaseline...

    Any ways.

I have yet to see Sicko. But I paid for shrek 2 tickets and I saw Farenheit 911 or w.e.t.f it was and I quite honestly from that day ruth that I saw it, It was the biggest pile of shit I have ever put my eyes on.

Further more, Everything he shows is out of context, They are one in a hundred kind of thing. For instance, You see a person fall down so you think he is clumbsy. But in fact hes a trapeize artist, If that doesnt make sence, Maybe this will.

I saw a documentation on Jamaica, and all it showed were the slums, ghettos, and prejects, Never once did I see the beaches, or the clean, Prestine, ocean water, I never saw a palm tree, Or happy black people having a great time enjoying life like a true rosta.(Myself)

Also, I could do the same fucking thing he did for george bush, Doesnt mean its true.

I live in the US, and its not as bad as that movie makes it seem. Its funny how that guy only seems to talk to the few (few in comparison to those who get helped)who get fucked by our health care system.

Yup we may have to pay and you guys get it for free? But Your taxes are MUCH higher, and gas per gallon is more over there then here. So maybe you don't have to directly pay at the dr's office, but your higher taxes/gas prices/not sure what else does cover the cost for it.

But it could be better over there just because its more convenient. Couldn't tell you though because I only visited Canada.

I'm only going to ask umm, what? (even though it's SFA) because that was addressed to me.

    No.

And for the topic, again, give me a country of a similar size and better health care system (Universal to prove your point) and then you'll have some ground to stand on.

the us does have a horrid health care system period, I have yet to see anything but this guy he sounds like a jackass from what I have heard, the way our health care is it just bearly keeps our elderly people alive, and people with a low income get about the same respect, instead of us sending millions\billions and even trillions of dollars to these leeching countries that will never really benefit us why dont we spend that money on improving healthcare cleaning up the homeless problem more (has already done a fairly good start with this situation in some of the bigger cities) I really honestly dont think any of you have a right to talk about this situation the way that you do because you have not experianced it yourself, im guessing you are all atleast middle class (the ones that live in the us) we can do a bunch of really simple things to improve the country but we are too arrogant to do so because everyone just looks out for themselves and too obsessive over them making there own money.

There is no way that America's health system is better than Canadas. Your simply an American who thinks America is better than everything else in the world. Besides, everything Michael Moore presented are hard facts, not point of views.

Lol mates ive had all Americans post and only one canadien from the looks of it. I want you all to put your contry biased aside and look at the facts. Number one: We don't buy gas in bloody gallons. WTF is a gallon (lol jk i know what it is) we buy it in liters, and our gallons sizes are different anyways. Number 2: Ermmm. Our taxes arnt high enough to cost us over lets say 300 thousand dollars in a year which is what you could end up paying for a simply injury. in ffact it would take us humm like 80 years to pay that much in tax for the average person. Number 3: All of Europe has better health care then America. America's sytem is falwed.

    havn't seen sicko
    usa health care DOES suck

you who disagree are probly just the morons who think usa is better at everything and number 1 country. the fact is the entire usa government is mostly corrupt and stupid. I am 15 and don't have healthcare, my mom is 41 and doesn't have healthcare. SO yes it does indeed suck balls.

Don't leave one vouch, take them ALL out. It's better, but still pointless.

No, I'm not. I think we're flawed in many ways. Health care, however, isn't one of them. If you want to pay the bills for people who smoke, feel free. If you want to pay the bills of people who don't pay taxes (a.k.a. illegal immigrants) feel free. If you want to pay the bills of people who are too lazy to help themselves, by all means go for it. I, on the other hand, am not interested in doing that, nor the side-effects of Universal Health Care systems, so naturally I support what the US has. Obviously you've never heard of the term "card stacking". Your ignorance is astounding.

It's obvious they don't put much into your education system...

$300,000 for a simple injury. Hmm. Well, lets see here. Under what circumstances could that happen? 1) Someone else causes it. Well, that wouldn't cost a penny, as they'd sue the person that caused the problem for medical bills. 2) You're born with a problem. Well, if you have insurance then you're all set. If not, then especially with children there are thousands of charities that pay for the bills. 3) You cause it yourself. Hopefully, you have insurance. If not, it's called Darwinism. Usually charities will help these folks too, but not always, which is exactly how it should be. If someone smokes, they know the risk. They shouldn't be able to rack up hundreds of thousands in bills for treatment for their lung cancer. If someone that comes into the country illegally hurts themselves, how do they expect taxes they don't even pay to cover their problems? Yadda, yadda, yadda. Now think about where all the breakthroughs in modern medicine come from, the ones that your doctors give to you. Why, from the US of course. Incentive drives innovations, one which Universal Health care systems can't offer. Whine and whine all you want, but without mooching your Universal Health care system would do you nothing.

Ah, yes. The excuses get more and moe pathetic. Let me guess, the government is stopping her and yourself from getting a job? How about a GED? Public school secretaries get Health Care benefits, and there are openings for it everywhere. No more than a High School diploma is required to get the opening at my school.

Hospitals still stabilize people. They go above and beyond to help those who weren't at fault. Have you ever had a time when you needed medical help but were unable to get it?

So in our society where people are pushing for less government control, we should now have the government take control of our health?

The standing concept is to take an ineffecient government that everyone is pissed at already, add another huge undertaking on to their plate (despite the current national debt, foreign tensions, and the idea that in a capitalist democracy the government should be involved in peoples lives as little as possible), and to make the money by increasing taxes on an already economically troubled country? Why should the people with a lot of money (who obviously got that way by working their ass off, getting super lucky, or having a relative that worked their ass off) have to help those who didn't? We already have free health care to children of low income families, all SCHIP would have done is extend it to families making up to $82,500 a year, which if you ask me is a lot of money.

Beyond that, you would ruin an industry in a country struggling with unemployment. Research isn't free, it costs billions every year. It's obvious in countries that have Universal Health Care programs that the motivation for companies to produce new medicines in low by looking at the number of medical breakthroughs in these countries vs. that of the US. I would challenge anyone to find a country with a UHC program that has had more new medicines, techniques, or tools than the US. They make up for the research costs in the pill price. If the government negotiates too low, they'll stop. Simple as that.

Lastly, with immigration like it is, would we begin to check peoples ID and tax status before treating them? Or is it just open to whomever walks in, whether they're a citizen or not. Then we're paying for people who don't even contribute towards the expenses.

Personally, I'd rather not pay for the expenses of hypochondriacs, a homeless man looking for a warm room, or someone that doesn't even live in the country. I'd rather not pay for unnessecary treatments, "I don't know what that is, but why not, I'm not paying!". I'm not paying for the treatment of someone with lung cancer who ignored countless warnings to stop smoking.

The process to become a doctor is long, hard, and expensive. Why go through that process? Because doctors make a ton of money. You work more, you make more. Period. If people have to work their ass off to make an average salary, then yes, not as many people will do it, the demand will drop, and the quality of care will drop as well.

Hospitals are efficient right now because it's in their best intrest to. When people have no motivation to make sure they get treatments they actually need, take care of themselves, research new medicines, do the work to become a doctor, or refine spending so that it's used effectively, they won't, and the quality of health care will suffer because of it. Look at the IRS.

So, we go back to my original statement: Find me a Capitalist Democracy with a population similar to the US and I'll believe it can work in the US. Until then, you're comparing totally different situations (like Sweden and the US) trying to prove your point (this goes both ways).

you can't really judge our healthcare system based on that biased pos movie. he makes all other countries seem far superior to us, but in the end its quite the opposite. it may cost less in other places, but you usually pay for that convenience in other ways. i read in one article that people in the UK had to wait several months to recieve a certain operation, while in the US you could get in and out in a matter of days. (it'll cost a lot however)

i think in the end there really isnt a 'best' healthcare system bc on there own each system has its flaws.

Gnomey, all i can say is that you are thick. I hope you get hurt really bad and ur health care insurance denys you. Every poins you have made is complete BS! You don't honsetly belive that a cahirty will help you? Do you have any idea how much media attention you have to get before a bloody charity help you. That's why you hear about charitys helping people beacuse they got media attention first. Also, if your born with a medical probelm what insurance company is going to insure you? Also, we don'y pay for imigrants anymore then you do. If your not a canadien citizen and you don't pay taxes you don't get health care. And even if they do somke a person is a person. Thats like saying if you don't like someone let them DIE! Bloody hell mate im not god so I can't say your beliefe stem is messded up but I sure as hell would like to. Lets have a go at each others throts over MSN and not a forum batter my msn is [email protected]. Lets have a debate. As a matter of fact lets all have a debate, might be fun. PM me for a time and a date and what side your on and ill PM you back the details.

We COULD get healthcare for me and my mom from the state, however she is currently in another state on family business that was suppose to last no more then 2 weeks. its been 4 months now because she can't afford to come back, and when she does we can get healthcare. So anyone who is in poverty and can't afford good healthcare, the state should provide. so really yeah anyone can get healthcare, its just if they want good healthcare they gotta pay. Either way I still believe Canada's is better.

    are you kidding me?
Am I even going to reply to this?
Yea, Charitys never help anyone that "needs" it of course, even know when 1 guy in a local not very known newspaper got hurt, Charitys from other states were flowing in to help him. Seriously, do a little bit if research before you post. And also, don't just say that "that was a 1 time shot" because it's not, it happens all the time.
