Hacked, no virus found, am I still safe?

I woke up today to see that 20M was missing from my account . I did a quick virus scan and then a full one and found nothing on my computer. I changed all of my passwords using the on-screen keyboard. Am I safe now? The fact that I didn't find any viruses makes me worried.

Turns out my brothers computer had a virus on it, I am going to reboot my windows anyway because it could do with a cleanup. Thanks for all of the advice

 

Change your passwords on a different machine.

Wipe your harddrive VIA reformat.

You aren't safe. You probably got RATTED and your AV isn't detecting.

 

Was your password easy to guess?

Is it something that somebody could have guessed if they had known you?

 

I highly doubt it was that

 

Which virus scan software did you use? Some keyloggers can't be detected.

There is also the possibility that you got phished and weren't aware.

 

If you changed your passwords even with the on screen keyboard, they can still key log you sir.

Please don't change anymore passwords till the virus is removed.

It is VERY unlikely your password was simply guessed and it is VERY likely you either had your password phished or have a form of malware.


Please download and run malwarebytes.org and post full scan results.

I will check this shortly.

 

i never trusted antivirus programs :S just do a wipe on your harddrive and you will b fine

My brother just found a virus on his computer so its very likely that's the cause, thanks for the help

 

do you use any programs for RS (bots, osbuddy, etc) ?

 

If your password wasn't changed, it means that someone knew your password and your account wasn't recovered.

This means you were either phished, infected, or someone guessed/knew your password from something else, infection being the least likely of the three and probably not the case if your virus scan came up fresh.

 

Malwarebytes is a great malware detector, but it won't detect if you're RATTED or hit by a java driveby.

I'd suggest posting on www.geekstogo.com They have a virus removal section and I've used them multiple times even when I was RATTED and they helped me clean my computer.

The easiest and safest route is to re-format and start new but I know that's not always a viable solution.

If you are ratted theres more that needs to be run other than malwarebytes... You need OTL logs and someone that knows what to look for to analyze them.

I also suggest running Esets Free online scanner to see if it picks up anything.

JMG another tip for avoiding this entirely in the future is to use the Runescape Authenticator, which is free through their site.

All you need is a cell phone (most secure) or an email (less secure), if you have a cell phone it makes it almost 100% impossible for someone to hack you unless they are playing directly on your computer.

 

Why don't more people use jag auth and put a bank pin. There's literally absolutely no way for you to get hacked if you have an authenticator. 0. zip. nada. zilch. You will never get hacked.
