Well, obviously social engineering has more dimensions than luring, but that is besides the point. So, you're saying the power, right up until their loss of wealth, rests with the victim who's too gullible to realize they're being lured? So, you don't think the victim of a social engineering scheme is gullible enough to realize giving away your bank or personal information is a bad idea? What you're saying about the victims of lures can be applied to the victims of social engineering.

No, I'm saying 1) social engineering is punishable by law while luring isn't, for many reasons, and 2) once the damage is done, astronomically worse things can happen to you than losing rs gold if you're phished. Identity theft and luring are, by absolutely no means, on the same level in even the remotest fashion

The only think linking the two is the need for a gullible victim.

That is besides the point. I agree that social engineering is much more serious, but they are the same in theory. At the end of the day, you are using deception to deprive someone of money or possessions, just as you would if you social engineered. The severity of the issue is not at question here. You would get banned for scamming $1 just as you would for scamming $1000.

They're not the same in theory. In theory, social engineering is a way to steal into someone's life, wrest control of ones assets and accounts, and ultimately assume full control of the private property of another through highly illegal and black-hat means.

Luring, in theory, is "hey, come trade me at the tribesmen on karamja, i buy your gold for double the price".

If deception were against the rules, there'd be a lot more banned people.

To scam is to deceive. They are synonyms.

Breaking down the mechanics of both you find the same things working. You are befriending someone and gaining trust. Then intentional plotting to gain an upper hand in the relationship to apply pressure on the other party to do something they wouldn't normally do (generally).

It's different on runescape than it is on here. Luring someone while they're trying to do a trade should be against the rules. Look at the poll..

And, how does one steal into someone's life? Or, have someone trade them their gold in promise of doubling their bank? Deception. They are not just using deception, but they are using deception to deprive someone of money or possessions. Both are the same in theory, they are just done in different ways, and obviously vary in severity.

lure isnt against the rule on runescape.

so it should not be against the rule if you play runescape.

    I voted no:

It's already against the rules to lure other Sythe members.

The reason I voted No is because in order for someone to be lured, they have to somewhat cooperate with the person luring them, as opposed to a scam, where the victim (most of the time) is having their trust in the other user taken advantage of.

Ok, but now days theres one person being your friend and gaining your trust while the person who you think is going to lure you is actually working with the person convincing you. I'd say atleast 95% of lures now are like this, 5% being some scrub trying to drop 10k behind a tree for a 1m lure. It would be too hard to moderate what lures are considered ok so ban them all together.

@Wulf: It doesn't matter if it is like social engineering. It's a god damn game. Tricking others to get ahead is part of pretty much any multiplayer game. Poker is all about deception.

I like how you've used the word "tricking" instead of "scamming" because you'll be called out on it.

It's a scam, end of story.
If scamming is against the rules then so should luring.

Same as poker. You bluff and deceive someone into doing something, and win their money.

This whole thing is a contradiction, it really is.

Everyone is trying to argue their point into it being a bannable or non-bannable offence yet I'm the one whose supposedly done this offence and have been issued a TWC?

What the hell is going on?

Luring should not be against the rules.

In poker, you trick someone to believe something, and then boom. You win their money.
Same as in RS, you trick someone into believing something, and then boom. You win something. It's all part of the game(s).

Also, in poker, some people choose not to believe the person who tries to trick them.
Same as in RS, some people actually have the common sense not to go trade someone with phats in the wildy.

Would you go to sell a precious item to someone in real life in a dark ally way or in the middle of nowhere?

when you play poker, you know that you're gambling and have a chance to loose. It's not the same as lying to people and backstabbing their trust in order to scam them.

You should be banned. End of story.
There's already enough scum on this forums as to vading scammers. Children like yourself that try to scam other members then knowingly try sell stolen goods to gold buyers aren't needed here. you can literally fuck off.

You do realise, most lures don't even involve the wilderness anymore. people who lure are always trying to find new methods to scam people.
An example is like the bridge in the temple of ikov lure.

And again, don't try make associations with poker to scam luring.

    Poker =/= Luring

When you play poker, you know you have a chance to loose.
When you play poker, you're gambling.

When you're lured, You're lied to by people for days in order to seem as friends.
Then, they use some ingenious way to fuck you over for some items.
The person who gets lured, doesn't know that there's a risk factor.

Don't correlate things that have no correlation to eachother.

And as to luring, why does everyone act like it involves the wilderness?
Is the only "lure" you've seen the jojo3000 where people drop 10k coins and then barrage them?

Hacking other members for their hard earned items - bannable.
Scamming other members for their hard earned items - bannable.
Luring other members for their hard earned items - should also be bannable.

    You should be banned.

Bitch and moan about it all you want., because in the end of the day
    you.
    should.
