2500k is a second gen i5/7CPU you need a 1155 board for the second gen CPUs.
he could, but he would still need a new monitor, or buying a card like the 6950 is a waste of money when he could get away with the 5670..

    Alright then, fair enough.

OP, if you want an optimal playing experience on those games, be prepared to shell out $800-900. $500 is too minimal for those games on good graphic settings etc. Let us know what you decide to do.

o_O Playing those games on a 5670? I doubt he'd be able to even come close to playing them with relatively good settings. But yeah I'm just gonna go out on a limb and assume he needs a new monitor as well seeing as the rest of his system is pretty old. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an old 17" CRT.

I can play WoW and MW2 on max graphics on my 4670 with relative ease. It could be ok.

Neither are very graphically demanding though. What resolution do you play at? It's probably worth it to invest now and be future proof than constantly spending money on better cards when newer, more demanding games come out. Just my opinion, though.

    I play 1920x1080.

I don't think OP needs a $300 graphics card, something a LITTLE lower budget should be suffice.

Well, it would be better than his current rig and can run most things at med. It would be a good value, but not a beast machine..

and I use Passmark for my benchmarks. The 470,480,570,580 are in the top 4 spots. And I wasn't even aware it was a deal when buying it. I just figured that they were about that price all the time.

I also have a 5770 running on a firstgen i5 machine. It can run a lot, and would be perfect for someone that doesn't play very demanding games or on max settings. It's about $80-$150 now probably, but a pretty good deal for a lower budget machine.

it says in the specs, thast monitor is probably 1024*768 or w/e and a 5670 could do damn well at that res.

He needs a new monitor tho.
OP still hasn't said where he is from, cos that depends on prices and shit.

I'd just buy a new PC if I was you. But if you want I'd start off by upgrading the Ram, get at least a minimum of 4GB DDR3 Ram, If you got 2 slots get 2x2, or if one you can get 1 4GB which costs considerably more. Estimated price is around £40 for a decent branded 2x2.

Personally I'd rather do 4x1gb in dual channel if that was all I planned on putting in there.

2x2 is better kill dank, then you can upgrade to 8gig if needed(most mobos have 4 DIMMS) and less chance of failure etc etc.

But incase of failure, you won't have to replace a 4gig or 2 gig stick when you can just pick out the faulty 1gig and still have 3 gigs until you can find a replacement.
BUT, more personally than the last post, I'd never settle for 4 gigs of RAM so it wouldn't even be relevant to me.

but then you'd only be running in single channel + no room for expansion, 2x2 is much more common the 4x1.

You'd be in single channel if one of the 2 gig sticks went out too, but then you'd only have 2 gigs until you got a new stick. Where I would have 3. And since It would be with budget parts, the probability of something breaking or malfunctioning would be higher, thus creating more of a need for a "backup plan" such as this one.
I couldn't run just 2 gigs of ram. I'm using 3.1 now just browsing.
I understand what you're saying though and if I weren't making suggestions for a budget machine, I'd definitely go with more RAM per module.

    Wtf do you have open?
And w7 uses as much available, if you only had 2gig, you'd be using less overall anyway.
I have 6gig and am using 1.7gig atm, if I only had 4 I'd probably be only using 1.3ish gig. Idk i can't think of how to put it in words.

2x2 would be cheaper cos of less sticks? idk PCCG(Australian store) I can't see any 4x1gig sets, only 2x2 and stuff. :s

    Don't need a set, just get 2, 2x1's.

But all that aside, I have ConvertXtoDVD open, but not doing anything, I have 7 tabs in one chrome window, 16 in another, and 3 youtube pages in a third. 2 explorer windows, and picture manager.

Well that explains why youre using so much ram.

PCCG doesn't even sell 2x1's hahahah. meh ram is cheap enough anyway $50 for an average set of 2x2 so idk who would want to buy less.
