Cancer - Cure Or No Cure?

For a Few years now I've thought about Something, Are the government keeping hidden the fact they know the cure for cancer? With Cancer being a Global Killer, Bringing In the cure would Save alot of lives, letting many people live for alot longer, Yes. this would Be Great.. but not for the governments point of view.. Why Do you ask?

Normally Cancer will most likely develop in the older Person, Maybe Retired So the Government have to pay them. With the Cure going to be costly, would they believe its worth letting them live for a couple more years? try and see this From A governments View, As of November 2008, the world's population is estimated to be about 6.7 billion, Cancer causes about 13% of all deaths. This is Quite Large percentage. Meaning quite a bit of De-population, if there was a cure. the Population would Rise Even Faster. Causing Overpopulation and Yet More money being spent.

Another Point is I believe that the cure is being used, for VIP only. Maybe Some Celebrity's, the queen Of england. ambassador's, The President and other Hierarchy of the world. Just Releasing it to the public would cause too many problems because of better Treatments.

Anyway, Post your thoughts, Views, Disputes Anything, :)

If you knew the first thing about cancer, you'd know that it was a class of diseases for which there couldn't possibly be a single cure for.

1.) I know what cancer is. its a Genetic Mutation Of Your Own Cells. Which Can be triggered by a few things including Exposure TO Ultraviolet Radiation
2.) It is Possible To Cure Cancer..

    People wouldn't profit from it?
Were talking about cancer here! It kills millions each year and your seriously saying that a cure wouldn't do anything for anyone?
How does that even make sense? A cure would profit EVERYONE, how? Well for starters they would still be alive.

Do you think before you speak?

Well, there are several safeguards that prevent a cell from becoming cancerous. UV exposure can accelerate spontaneous mutations as most radiation will, but cancer occurs at old age typically because of multiple safe guards failing. It's extremely hard because we have yet to find an efficient way that can target specific cells with mutations...The cell appears normal except for a few atoms of DNA.

I wouldn't say impossible, but the government/pharmaceutical companies would not have good interest in restricting the cure. So far the best way has been to carpet bomb the hotspots. There are some theories about splicing viruses, using certain enzyme inhibitors, even stem cell research....

Do you think before you speak? Major companys dont care about people, they care about profits, not wether people live or die, they could care less, with treatments they have now, they keep people coming back and back.

Its all about the money ;)

There are many different types of cancer. You can't cure all of these different types with only one sort of treatment, it's practically impossible.

There is no cure, but there are expensive ways to get rid of it, and yes, the government will not spend millions of dollars on a person to keep them alive.

Cancer - Cure Or No Cure?

One day we will look at cancer the same way we look at the the common cold or flu. 60 years ago, the flu could kill you, now we can go and buy medicine from the pharmacy or even the local supermarket. But for every disease we cure, another one is bound to appear.

Sadly it may not happen in my lifetime, or even my children's lifetime, maybe not in 300 years. But one day there will be a cure for all forms of cancer. At the moment, there is no known cure for cancer. But there is ways to stop the disease spreading, and early detection is vital.

How can we help cure cancer? By help organizations who specialize in cancer research. In Australia, we have the Cancer Council. These people research their time to help cure cancer, if we donate we can help bring this "cure" earlier or at least gain some vital information.

I agree with magic! There is a cure but it is unknown now but one day it will be simply cured but you are also right about how a new disease/illness will evolve or something.

Cancer - Cure Or No Cure?

    Like there already has been said a few times;
There are allot of forms of cancer. Allot happen when several safeguards fail and there even is cancer in the Cervix of a woman which is caused by a virus.
It is really hard to compare cancer with any other disease.
And to what Magic Arrow said, I still think the flu can kill people. Especially older people and young children can die of it. And this medicine we have really doesn't help you that much. It's more about howmuch your family takes care of you when you have a really bad flu.
You are also saying that there might be a cure over hundreds of years. I am positive every disease that kills people nowadays won't do anything to do by the time you and I are dead.

Cancer - Cure Or No Cure?

I did not compare the flu with cancer. You misunderstood several points in my post. I did not say the flu was harmless, as like in cancer, it comes in several forms. Look at bird flu, it has no cure and it can kill you. I was trying to say that what cancer is to us flu was 300 years ago. So my point really is :

Cancer now = Flu 300 years ago.

Now I more than anyone know how ignorant it is to compare two disease that are completely different, but it just back up my point that one day, maybe 300 years from now, you could buy cancer treatment possibly from a supermarket.

I don't really understand your last point. If you could post again, I'd be happy to reply.

What would be point of keeping hidden one of the most sought out cures on this earth? The money you could make from this would be world breaking.

I do belive there will be a cure for cancer since there's a cure for everything nowdays, it's just a matter of time.

I doubt they're hiding the cure and using it on VIPs since that would be a nightmare to fix if someone found out about it. And you could make huge profits out of that, since cancer is everywhere (like Aids and Hiv, there will be a cure, it's just a matter of time.)

You've seen one of the problems of socialized medicine in that scenario - the government deciding who lives and who dies.

Cancer - Cure Or No Cure?

There are many conspiracy theories about numerous things and one of them holds that there is some wonderful cure for cancer that is being concealed because doctors and hospitals make such a lot of money from treating their patients. This particular conspiracy theory is however almost certainly 100% untrue because doctors and laboratory scientists as well as their family members die of cancer at the same rate as everyone else with one exception. Healthcare professionals and biomedical researchers are less likely to develop and/or die of lung, larynx, esophageal and other tobacco related cancers because they are more aware of the dangers of tobacco and are less likely to smoke than the rest of the population. Other medical breakthroughs of all types are quickly announced and then put into practice as with antibiotics and vaccines and all kinds of live saving electronic and electrical equipment. Only a few decades ago, less than one in ten children with leukemia survived ten years after diagnosis but with modern chemotherapy, the cure rate for these children is almost eighty percent. Other examples of related progress include Hodgkin's lymphoma, bone and kidney cancers in children and testicular cancer. Fewer than half of all people with cancer in the West actually die of the disease and many who are not ‘cured’ still go on living for years with relatively few changes in their lives thanks to years of research and the subsequent advances in various treatments.
