Seriously if you belive this has happened to you or anyone else it is probably because they have not reached the age level required to play the game! Usually you have to be teen to play like GTA and alot of shoot em' up games but you see like 9 year olds playing them. Thats where "mind control" comes in and may give them the idea of shootin up a place coz they did it on a video game.

well it depends how long and how often you play them,
if you play them alot over a period of time they will most likely begin to influence you.

I think the best example was the case of the American kid who shot his brother after seeing GTA. The problem with blaming it on the game is that A) WTF was a 13 yr old doing playing an adult game B) WTF was a 13 yr old doing having access to his dads gun C) WTF was the dad thinking when he kept the ammo next to the gun.

Games are fine as long as parents are responsible enough to tell their kids they are only GAMES.

Runescape doesn't look as realistic as FPS games ;)

i think that people who play shooters arnt all crazy violent pychopaths, i play tons of FPS and the worst that will happen to me is that i start screeming headshot, people who do start killing are normally mentaly sick, dont juge a commutity based on a few people.

there are some people who are weak-minded, who can't stand watching certain things without being influenced. These people take everything serious they read, see or hear.
What's worse, that in the US, you can easily obtain firearms, thus mentally ill people can kill others just that easy!

Personally i think it would be ludicrous to believe shooting games don't have an effect on people.
A fact that isn't up for debate is that watching violence/ negative things we aren't accustomed to seeing desensitizes us in those subjects.

Take the scariest horror movie you've ever watched, find the part in it that just makes your hear lurch when you see it, finish watching that part, rewind, watch it again about 20 times, and see if it gives you the same emotional effect as it did the first time you watched it. Try watching it a week later, i'm fairly sure the scene won't be as scary as it was in the first place.

Does this mean your going to become a serial killer when you grow up? Not necessarily, but it sure isn't going to the most empathetic being on the planet. On the other hand, if you already are unstable and fighting with yourself for a reason why you shouldn't become a serial killer, playing a couple games of GTA might just give you that push off the edge you need.

How many people have had violent dreams? It is scientific fact that about 2/3rd's of your dreams are in fact nightmares. Dreams use the same optic part of your brain that is used for seeing, so the project images are the most realistic without actually being real. Is everyone violent based on their dreams? No, in fact, it is currently believed that you have dreams to "prepare" you should you ever be in a dangerous situation.

That's like judging a book by its cover. Just because somones larger than someone else doesn't make them fat, does it?

There already are age restrictions, read the box. >_<

    Yup...
    Exactly what happened to me.
I was playing GTA 3, when I was 9 or 10. I started becoming really abusive towards my mum, hitting her, shouting at her. Then my mum threw it out, I went back to my normal self. A nice boy :)

    lol

I think this whole topic is dumb, I think kids and teens know the different between doing a drive-by shooting in a video game and a drive-by shooting IRL, besides i think the columbine would have happened wether or not the kid played grand theft auto, he probably knew he would die and thus wanted to have as much fun as he could before he did.

there going to be stupid idiotic people who take things from video games and act it back out in real life. Little kids soak up all information so yeah it really can effect them at young young ages. There are ratings on the games for a reason. A little kid can't go into a store and buy GTA. Someone had to buy it for him, and those are the people responsible.

That guy must have been messed up mentally to let a video game sipher in his head and let it control him if you like, taint him or whatever such words you have in mind. Perhap's he just used it as an excuse to release his already altered and poisened mind onto other people.

It depends on the person, not the game.

Source: I used to play GTA daily.

I beleive that this does have an affect on childrens minds. GTA tells kids that (o killing is no big deal you wont die, people just respond) little kids might get this oppinion. Rachels tears happend in a high school were goths were being bullied, the kids listend to death music and played death games thus leading them to kill 35 people in the high school. There has been many occasions were this has happend. games like gta should only be allowed to older veiwers more sensitive veiwers or not allowed at all, even older veiwers get bad idea's from these kinds of games. These night-mare enduceing games are bad for kids minds. some critics might beleive otherwise but these are my veiws.
