    Sexting, breaking a law?

This thread is to discuss whether or not sexting should be against the law. Updated for those who don't understand what we are debating..

Well as i was watching the early news today, there was a mother on there who's only daughter killed herself last year because when she sent naked pictures to her boyfriend, and when they broke up later he sent them to everyone.

My question to you is do you really think that people should get in trouble for sending naked pictures, of people over the age of 16? Let alone become known as a pedophile.

I know the age is 18 for pornography, but should it be changed to as long as you are a sensible person, you are reliable for what happens? Instead of anything under the age of 18 is child pornography. I don't see why if are idiotic enough to send it, then i dont see why you should be charged.

    Edit/

No shit if your over the age of 18 you can send nudes.

I really don't think, that sending pics of girls over 18, is illegal.
UNLESS you got the pics, without their permission, of course.

I think, that as long as you are over 18, its legal, provided the pictures were sent to you by the person, as maskiet said, with their permission.

Those pictures were released to humiliate her, which led her to killing herself.
Which should obviously lead to punishment.
Although I'm not quite sure I'm getting the basis of this thread. (Don't hit me!)

I think that it should be fine if you want to send pics of yourself to your bf/gf. As long as your not selling your them, no harm no foul right?

    Sexting, breaking a law?

Law and Order got to it first; but, it is an interesting dilemma.

What's more, the girl could have been charged with producing child pornography as easily as her boyfriend, if she were under 18 at the time (even if she didn't mean for anyone else to see it).

Assuming she was over 18, though, what her boyfriend did was mean and vindictive. But illegal? I don't think it should be; she knew the photos were taken and she should have known what could have happened. Moreover, her suicide was an inappropriate response, suggesting there were probably some additional underlying issues (ie, depression). Embarrassment itself does not cause death.

I never said over the age of 18, i said should a person at the age of 16/17 be charged for sending nude pics?

    Read above.

Why should her death lead to punishment for people? She did it herself.

Right now it actually goes by who sends it. If i were to send nudes of myself to my gf, then i would be charged with sending them, but she wouldn't be charged with receiving them.

I just don't see why you should be charged with child pornography, when both sides know what they are doing.

If you give anyone naked pictures of anyone else without the other persons consent then it's illegal. If they're dead I don't think it is but that's still a matter of respect.

Ya, that is correct. But right now, if anyone under the age of 18 sends out naked pictures to anyone, they can be charged with possessing child pornography.

Yes it is indeed very embarassing. Well, some people care too much about their pride. I feel that sending of these pictures in this scenario should be illegal.

He had the cruel and criminal intention, he should be punished

Maybe over 18 and if you aquired(sp?) the picture with there permission then you can send then around if you want since the picture is yours now.

She sent the pictures to him, fully knowing that the pictures might be leaked. So it is no one else's but her owns fault.

Oh I'm sure she didn't think about it at the time, TJ. She was most likely incredibly naive, like most girls her age.

Of course taking naked pictures of other's and spreading them without consent is intolerable. The fact is that the girl consented to give the photos to him, and I see no reason why he should be punished for it, whatever intent he had.

She should of atleast known that there would be some chance that others would see them, unless she was completely idiotic.

Technically, sending nude/naked pictures of a person under a certain age is considered sending child pornography.

Thats what we are debating here, good job.

Why is it illegal if they over the age of 16, and they do it themselves?

Don't post your spam shit here.
