Several service discord servers have been banned during the year... let's talk about it

Welcome, I open this topic to talk about an issue that has been going on for some time, there have been several service providers affected by bans and server shutdowns during the course of this year.

Discord, despite being a great platform, no longer seems to be a safe place to backup information from any OSRS-related business

Could this be taken as a direct action by the company or have there been several reasons for this to happen?

So it's likely that Jagex is working together with Discord to shut them down. However Discord bans still seem pretty rare and I often see very large groups that have been there for years. The censorship definitely is a problem though, and there are alternatives that can be used.

Telegram is a bit simpler and doesn't have all the features of Discord, but I don't think any channels on here could be as easily taken down:

I think that eventually there will be development of an app like Discord that is censorship free. I find it unlikely though that even working together with Discord that they will be able to take down services on a large scale. As soon as they close a server it can just re-opened again.

 

This is something that we will see happen in the future, it is best for Jagex and Discord as companies to support themselves, than to support others who participate in these activities, no matter how big the communities are.

I really like the tools you have shared, they are a good idea of alternatives to this type of action. When a provider loses its server, there is a lot of information and organization, work that remains there, as well as particular accounts that can be banned

 

I can only suggest the alternative that a lot of people already know about, if you're reading this and unsure it's called Guilded.

It's a free to use platform that has similarities to Discord, with a few different features. I'd suggest if you have a server start moving towards Guilded to avoid censorship or just stupid bans for no reason.

I was in a few that was recently banned too. Don't seem like it happens often though. Lets hope not.

 

Their policy is to ban account trading and boosting to, similar to Discord:

It's likely that a truly open platform will come though.

 

Hopefully jagex will not make this a thing but you know it's jagex, only they can advertise gambling now! lol

 

It has already been against the rules since RuneScape was released, but like gambling, services will continue.

 

So we using Telegram instead of Discord now?

 

It's a good option, I've seen groups that are actually illegal with thousands of members.
