Setting up a vps

I'm trying to setup a vps, i've followed the guide on sythe, and have set up everything in putty. But, when i'm trying to download epic bot from the website I can't open the .Jar file or the .exe in linux. When i try to open it, it says "Open epicbot.jar and other files of type "java archive" with : but it doesn't have any reccomended applications, and the only other ones are Firefox, and Mousepad which don't help.
