Where exactly is the server located? I've been banned for infractions 2 or 3 times and unbanned between 7 and 13 hours later from the time it said I will be unbanned. If we are able to see when we sent and received private messages in our time zone then why can't we see the proper unban time in our time zone?

Good thing we are not on facebook, because if you just looked a little you would have found this:

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:25 PM.

Check the very bottom of the any page.

No. That's your timezone that you set. Not the server's timezone.

The times you see for the ban are based on what your time preferences are set on. I'm fairly sure that the server does unbans at a certain time each day or twice a day or what not which is why it isn't exact.

That's the only way to do it efficiently... You being banned is just changing your usergroup and putting you on a ban list in the database. In order for the server to know that you need to be unbanned, it must check meaning going through the entire ban list to see who can be unbanned. That takes up CPU and thus it is only done every once and awhile.

I would think it would be more efficient to use little cpu usage by unbanning people at the right time instead of gathering all that little cpu usage into a certain time and doing it.

Basically a permanent 5% instead of getting to like 60% during that period.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about so I'm not going to bother trying to explain it anymore. Vb is professionally made software and they do things for a reason and that isn't going to be changed. The real solution here is for you not to get banned so much and then you don't have to deal with it.

Me being banned is beside the point. Are you saying that every forum running VB only unbans a couple of times a day instead of at the time given to banned users on the logon screen?

I did not claim to know what I was talking about so instead of getting upset and making a rage post you did not have to post anything. Or you could have explained to me why I am wrong.

edit: I was speaking theoretically that it its my opinion that I would rather my cpu use 5% permanently instead of 60% at one time by doing the process one or two times a day, that is all.

There are ways to make it unban down to the minute but they are much more complex and really it does not matter if you get unbanned at 6am or 9pm. Its just a few more hours. It's not worth the extra load (constant load) during all hours instead of a *slightly* larger load at non-peak hours.

Ok. If there was an explanation like that on the ban screen then I would have been satisfied and that is all.

I bet Matthew would be willing to add a note to that. It's been an issue before. I'l add that to my list of things to pester him with.

Does the server do the same thing with infractions, because one of mine was supposed to expire 8 hours ago?

Most likely. Again, easiest way to do it if it doesn't have to be real time.
