How do i build a professional website?

How would i build a professional website. What languages will i need to learn?

So far i know is that i need to become fluent in learning;

html
css
photohop (graphic designs)

But if i learn the above, would i be able to make good websites, which proper table layouts and such? Example, would i be able to make something like this if i knew the above languages fluently - http://go-red.co.uk/

Thanks if anyone can help me out. Remember, stuff like javascript etc. i prefer not to think it's that essential unless i have some kind of special effect, i just want to build a professional website using graphics, and make it look good.

 

Html is something you will need to learn, in depth, and believe me, that is not easy to do.

To be honest, you'd be best off hiring a professional. It would take a while to learn all the HTML/Java/PHP you'd need.

 

I am willing to learn html/css in depth.

May i ask why Java/php is necassary? For now i want to make it simple. I want to be able to put pictures where i want to put it and text where i want to put it.

Java is not necessary for a website. Perhaps you mean Javascript?

PHP is not necessary, but if you can build your site based on it, you WILL save a lot of time in the future.

Javascript isn't necessary either, but it makes pages more functional, more appealing.

Learning html/css in depth is not going to help you build a professional website... You'll need to look at other websites, read more about it, etc. It isn't as easy as just learning html/css.

 

Doesn't a professional web designers cost a couple grand?

I love it when people bitch and complain about my prices, yet if they were to research they'd find someone else with the same skills as myself would charge thousands.

 

Getting Dream Weaver will help with learning the basics. With CSS and photoshop you would be able to make a pretty good website.

 

You should jack up your prices a bit then.

Macroman, I don't suggest using Dreamweaver, EVER. It uses code that really isn't xhtml compliant, and will only give you trouble when you try making it so. It might be useful here and there to get something really quick and simple done. Otherwise, don't even touch it. And don't ever depend on it.

You can easily just pick a template and open it inside dreamweaver and just do some editing and you got something good

Just add some google adsense and you are set -_-

Yet if you want it all pro, you can get it done cheap under $100 (its called Outsourcing) go down to DP and hire a gfx coder.

Once you got the CSS and HTML set just put it inside php and start to integrate it into web 2.0, maybe add a login or so ect...

Quick Tips

Remember to trim every string you get from _POST and _GET, so you are safe i would advise you remove < and > and some others
And for MYSQL I would advise you get Zen Cart or something -_-.


If your server can run ASP, you can take a shot at that as well but its harder

He does not know the basics of building a website, what makes you think he knows the difference between $_POST and $_GET? Or what they even are?

Adsense NEVER brings in much more than a few cents daily, unless you get some decent amount of hits. (Decent being about 100+ or so)

 

You will need these things:

good html skillz
php is a good idea
good javascript skillz
l33t photoshop skillz
and you must have some kind of design talent (lol i dont got that and even if i use program to generate code for me mine still turn out crappy)
