should National service be brought back to UK?

I recently found out about a thing called National service, it means having to go into the army for maybe a year, straight after leaving school. I'm not sure if The US is the same as the UK with national service, but if you want to share your views then feel free too here.

 

The US doesn't have this, and I don't think it should/will be brought back. This is because the person who puts in it action will become REALLY unpopular, and never will win another election. It also makes the citizens usually unhappy.

 

It's similar to the draft in the US. If you get picked, you join the army, no exceptions. I don't even think it is legal here

 

That is not allowed. Completely illegal.

 

Uhh, it's "illegal" until a law is passed requiring it. In the US when you register for your license or register to vote, you have to sign up in case they ever need to re institute the draft.

 

yeh i think if we get into a war, and we dont have enough recruits, i think it would be Ok to re-institute the draft
