My Wireless Was Leached and almost had to pay up..

Well this is a little story of me and my wireless internet connection.

It turns out in the recent month it had been leached and abused alot (by some-one in my neighborhood), but i only noticed it today.

The internet was giving me the shits, it was slow and sluggish and my torrents were hitting 7Kb/s tops. I got pretty angry and shit.

My wireless never had a password, i was too lazy to ever set one and thought it was useless.

The whole time i thought i was king of the world, leaching another neighbors 100 kb/s connection. (Which is on 15% signal strength). And i thouhgt i was even cooler when i could access his 'i tunes'.

Anyway, i thought it could possible be that some-one else has been leaching my internet (not sure of the speed or whatever, but it maxes 300kb/s downloads) but i decided to give it a go.

It took me one hour to change the pass as thats how sluggish the internet was, but changing the pass didn't do anything, as the person(s) were still connected. I then had to rename my connection, which then, out of nowhere made my internet top notch again.

After realizing someone was leaching my internet, i realized they could access over 50gb in Warez/movies/music and alot of documents that contain users/passes of alot of things.

I decided to check my latest internet bill to see how much i had downloaded.
This was the bad part.2 months i had begged my mum to get unlimited downloads, and luck enough i did , as the download limit was at 213Gb and my limit is at 30gb (then it cuts to half speeds). The 30gb used to be my limit, and lucky enough we upgraded or we would have to pay up big.

Yeah, and i was just so surprised to the fact i was so oblivious, and these downloads were from a month ago, when i had no clue. So i'm looking forward to checking when it is at this month.

But yeah, just don't make the same mistake as me or you might have to pay up.

Also, what else could i do with my neighbors wireless? I already torrent on it and i can access his 'i tunes' sometimes, i have been researching but it fucking confuses me. his has no password, if i go on his network he has no network drives that are shared, if i type 192.168.1.1 i can get his config and shit for his router.

Naww. I was no way angry or whatever just happy i found it out. My opinion: If the wireless isn't passworded, you get every right.

 

ya make shure you set a pass. i was getting leached and i set pass changed name and everything. then it was good to go

 

nice i have a wireless internet but i live outside of town so no one can reach my connection and its passworded

 

Yeah well common sense secures a wireless network. You should send back a virus to the guy who accessed your internet lol.

MAC addresses are uniquely assigned to each and every wireless card ever made. If a MAC address that isn't set to be allowed to connect to our router, then it can't connect full stop. probably securer than a password, I'll say.

 

Yeah. But i ain't going to all that trouble. I was trying to connect to a wireless at my Nan's with Mac address allow list, anyway to break it?

 

No, not unless you can reverse engineer the coding of the router, which would be near impossible also.

MAC addresses take like 2 seconds to add to an allow list - and you call that trouble? Lol.

 

Nah, the thing is me and all my mates at school got a laptop for free (for being smart) and we always have little LAN parties at my house.

 

So permanently enable those MAC addresses? Lol.

I am in year 10, and the top 30 smartest kids get a laptop free for this year, the rest of the school gets one next year.

 

lol nice story same thing to me this poor ass nighbor couldnt afford his internet so he had to leach mine... then like i think my dad was checking something called isp or sumthing and he found a hea of porno sites veiwed..

Heh..sounds like fun.


1. Go to his wireless router control pannel by going to 192.168.1.1 and MAKE SURE THIS HIS HIS ROUTER AND NOT YOURS.

2. Find out what kind router he has. Chances are, its a Westell.

3. Go here. http://www.routerpasswords.com/index.asp and find the default router password.

4. Change his administrator password for the router.

5. Go into the control pannel, and find the "Connection Overview" page. It should look something like this.


Connection Name PPP Status
° My Connection UP


6. Click disconnect. The PPP up Status should say DOWN.

7. His internet is fucked and "pwned" by you, until he gets a new router, or is is smart enough to know how to reset the administrator password and reconnect his internet.

Ty Ty, but i knew all of this already.

He has the default password lol, and i was looking and toying around but i don't want to put it down, as i use his, and if he thinks its 'broken' he might buy another, then, no more free netzors =( .

I was looking more , to toy with his files, heh.

 

I had something like this, back when we had to pay a ton a mb. over the limit, I had some virus that enabled Kazaa (old shitty p2p) to upload as much as it wanted. It then uploaded itself onto different people's computer.

$5000 dollar bill later and my parents weren't pleased.
