    Wich OS to choose?

Id be building a new rig pretty soon and it would definitly have 8Gigs of RAM so a 32 bit OS is out of the question but wich 64 bit type one do you reccomend...Even tho vista chews up fps rate a bit its alot easyer to find drivers for than 64 bit version of XP.

BTW it would be a Windows OS not linux or Mac incase you havnt figered that out already :p

Oh and heres a wishlist of all the parts i would be using if you can find an error with the compatibility of some of them be sure to tell me!

Very nice build. You should get windows vista home premium or ultimate if you have the money. Why get windows vista?Because there is nothing wrong with it.It only drops like 5 fps in games but it looks so nice with dx 10 also xp is so plane vista looks awesome. Also that mobo and processor bundle is super over priced you can get a good intel quad(q6600) and mobo for less.

I would recommend 32bit, because 64bit compatibility is poor.

Yeah, just because you have a lot of RAM, it doesn't mean that you NEED a 64bit OS. 32bit is much easier to use, due to compatibility. You will be severely limited with a 64bit OS. And if you're limiting yourself to Windows Vista, then it really isn't that hard of a choice; use the most updated version.

I recommend 64-bit Vista since your rig is so overpowered that you won't even notice the extra resources taken up by Vista. Doing a dual-boot with another operating system (64-bit Overlord Archlinux) wouldn't hurt though.

I forgot to mention that i would be using the rig for mainly gaming, i can use the pc im on now for school work and other junk. And i acctually do need 64 bit OS to use all 8 gigs of ram because 32 bit can only see and use 4 gigs of ram max unless you hack it (wich i already tryed to do and failed). Thanks for your opinion tho

And Crunkjuice i have considered using and intel CPU but i just have a problem knowing that intel quads arnt REALLY quads such as AMD's Phenom is. I will look into it a bit more and mabye make a second wishlist to compair.

32 bit vista if you must have windows. Then dual boot with Linux Ubuntu for everything else. But i would recommend 32 bit xp. Trust me on this i have vista on this computer so many problems not worth so im dual booting with linux.

Dualboot 32/64-bit versions, install the 32-bit version first.

Xp, don't even bother spending a single cent on vista. Anyone that has a fair idea of computers knows that vista is absolute shit. Either get XP or wait a few months for the Vista service pack to come out with all the fixes.

I would go with Vista Ultimate, iv got it and I had heard about the "apparent problems" lemme tell you I've had none as so far. It does eat up more ram but i've got 3GB and im always perfectly fine you've gotta another 5 ;)

What is your actual case for "Vista is shit"? I've got a fair idea about computers, and I wouldn't call it shit.

Well, apart from random shut-off's and defiency for gaming. Nothing really.

Get it and wait for the service pack to come out if you feel the need I suppose, and why would he need 64-bit ultimate. He probably only need's home premium unless he wants all the other security featueres, etc.

lol? games run better on vista. also if you want to talk about games, all the new games are designed for it AND, you can play in dx 10 quality. and random shut offs? i havnt experienced any.

If you have alot of problems with vista, your computer is shit. or your installing 5 year old hardware.

it's called Service pack 1 brother. Fixed a ton of errors and now runs just as smooth as XP.

and you NEED the 64x version man, You would be wasting the extra 4GB of ram on your board...

Man, don't go into this about getting it free... I don't think talking about getting cracked versions of things for free is allowed anyways. (on this forum)

By the way, I don't think Vista Ultimate is 700$....

Linux and Windows are pretty dissimilar. You use a package manager to download and install applications you want, rather than buying or trawling websites for software, like you usually do on Windows. You can completely outclass Windows Vista themes and eyecandy if you install compiz fusion on Linux, look here. The only thing Linux can't do very well is games, but if you're doing a dual boot it won't matter anyway, since you can just use Windows for that.

If you want to give dual booting a go, I'd recommend you follow a guide for a user-friendly distribution of Linux. Here's a good guide for Vista and Ubuntu (Vista installed first): here.
User friendly distributions include Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Mandriva and lots more, there are lists of them if you go search on Google.
