[Guide] How To Stop Addiction To Computer/Internet [Guide]

Being addicted to the computer or the internet is no different from being addicted to smoking cigarettess or doing drugs. Honestly, both have risks on your health, and both can create an impact on your social lives. If you clicked on this guide then you obviously have some sort of addiction.

If you are playing or surfing an average of 3-4 or more hours on the internet or computer daily, then I would have to assume, you are indeed addicted.

In this guide, you will learn not only how to stop the addiction, but you will also learn how to regain back your social life, and be a useful person, instead of draining your life down the computer screen.

I mean, many of you already probably look like this guy, right?

Here are a few techniques on how you can reduce, or stop your addiction altogether:

    TECHNIQUE #1

First off, the most simplest thing to say is to stop the source. Where is the addiction source coming from? Your computer obviously. Unplug that computer, or the internet cable. Try to leave it unplugged for an entire week. This may be hard at first, but after you've accomplished it ONCE, believe me, you will have no problem at all doing it over and over again. It is just that tight craving that needs to be broken.

    TECHNIQUE #2

If the above technique does not work for you, or you just hate it, then here is a different possibility you can try. Plan and organize your time. This is called 'time management skills.' Spend one hour on the computer/internet in the morning, one hour in the afternoon, and one hour at night. Between those intervals you need to find something else to do. These skills will not only help with your addiction, but they are also useful for your career in the future.

    TECHNIQUE #3

The next technique is to develop a new hobby. Yes, this has been said many times and is very common, but seriously, it does wonders. Find something fun that interests you. Learn how to play a muscial instrument, invest some money on taking care of pets (I bought a few reptiles and play with them, for example), go play some sports, go outside and walk around, or try getting into some bodybuilding. When you develop a new hobby, you slightly lose interest in your old hobbies. This is true for many people.

    TECHNIQUE #4

This is not a really great technique and is quite inappropriate, but it could still work for some people. Go to a porn site or a really bad site right in front of your parents. Your parents will be disgusted in you and will most likely ban you from the computer/internet.

    TECHNIQUE #5

If you really have a real bad life-threatening addiction to the computer, you need to destroy your computer with a sledgehammer.

Well everybody, that concludes my guide. This is the first guide I've written, and I hope you will all read it and actually understand it.

Now go and get your fat flat ass off the computer for crying out loud before you end up like this guy:

Thank-you for taking an interest to read my guide!

I'm not entirely sure if there is a guide on this (however it would seem likely that there is), but in any regard, theguide was well written. I rate it 7/10.

    Things you could improve on
    -More pictures
    -More color to your text

Over all, it was an enjoyable read.

    Thanks bro. :D

EDIT: I searched this forum and couldn't find any guide on this. So I guess I'm the first one, and I'm surprised to be honest.

Pretty good guide, but the last picture disturbed me.
Also, instead of doing technique #4, you could just tell your parents you are trying to reduce your time on the computer, and ask them to help enforce time management. Not only will this help you reduce time on your computer, but it can also get you brownie points with your parents for showing responsibility.

    Search and then post ;)

It's an OK guide, again it's well laid out and it looks good, could use a little more picture use, but other than that it's all right. Keep it up.

I like your guide, but if you're addicted, you usually won't do any of those thigns, because you are addicted. You might try one of those, then go back to them. Well, you can't go back to your computer after you destroyed it, but you might find other ways. Is that last picture a picture of yourself? Jk

I don't see this as much of a 'guide' but it's interesting to read.

And isn't that fat guy Zezima? ^_^

Could you emphasize how it's not much of a guide?

    Nope. :D

It's not really in guide form, it's more like tips on how to get less addicted.

Ah I see where you're getting at. You basically mean it's not in a step-by-step instruction format, which most guides are like, right?

Well if you read off the definition of "guide" in Dictionary.com, you'll find that:

    1. to assist (a person) to travel through, or reach a destination in, an unfamiliar area, as by accompanying or giving directions to the person: He guided us through the forest.
    2. to accompany (a sightseer) to show points of interest and to explain their meaning or significance.
    3. to force (a person, object, or animal) to move in a certain path.
    4. to supply (a person) with advice or counsel, as in practical or spiritual affairs.
    5. to supervise (someone's actions or affairs) in an advisory capacity.
–noun 6. a person who guides, esp. one hired to guide travelers, tourists, hunters, etc.
    7. a mark, tab, or the like, to catch the eye and thus provide quick reference.
    8. a guidebook.
    9. a book, pamphlet, etc., giving information, instructions, or advice; handbook: an investment guide.
    10. a guidepost.
    11. a device that regulates or directs progressive motion or action: a sewing-machine guide.
    12. a spirit believed to direct the utterances of a medium.
    13. Military. a member of a group marching in formation who sets the pattern of movement or alignment for the rest.

I understand what you mean, but although my guide isn't really in step-by-step format, it's still giving advice on how you can accomplish stopping the addiction.

    :D

    4/10
    -1dkp for the last picture
-2 for telling you to smash it with a hammer (may that computer will provide money for liposuction)
-3 for automatically assuming that crap about the reader (non-useful, etc) i can think of 10 useful things to do on the computer in over 3-4 hours (that doesnt mean each day however)
    could use more organization too
