Hey, I'm moving to Canada to live there for the rest of my life very soon and I'm very sad however, I would like to know how important French is, in Canada.

I do know that French is Canada's second language. The one and only language that I speak is English, but I was wondering, is French really that important? I heard from many people in Canada that French is uber boring and they don't want to learn it at all.

I don't plan on going to Quebec or anything, but job-wise...how important is French for a job?

lol no. in ontario all students drop frencha fter grade 9. nobody cares about french in ontario. only manitoba and quebec speak french. unless you are trying to get some government funded job than you dont need french.

 

to the east of canada, french is very important. like in Quebec. hope that helps

 

It's not really important unless you move to Quebec. I'd say, it's not even necessary to know any French unless you're going to Quebec. Doesn't hurt to learn French if you want to take up federal politics though.

 

French won't be a problem in Ontario, but French is really needed in Quebec. Here in Montreal, it can be really difficult only speaking english because almost everyone speaks french :/

 

i live in BC and we gotta study french as our second language and i fucking hate it. worst goddam piece of crap language ever. i hate everything about it. ive been learning it for like 11 years now(i have to cus of school) but i still dont know a goddam thing about it. if you ever get a choice in high school between french or another subject, drop french

 

French is a huge plus towards getting a job. Alot of employers look for people that speak english and french. Could be an asset towards your career.

VERY Rarely do I ever see someone actually speaking French here. Its not a very common language AT ALL. In Ontario it shouldn't be common at all. You won't need to learn French AT ALL For a job. Unless of course its in Quebec. I really don't see how its the an official language of Canada.

Canada isn't a totally different country... Its not like we speak with our heads divided in 2.

Its just really under populated...

Oh yea, and they always in schools add French usually as an elective. Most people completely despise it. I, myself, hate French with a PASSION.

 

Yeah, it's just like being able to speak Spanish here in California.

 

If you arn't near Quebec, then you wont need it;
Unless you're in school... (learn it...know it, deal with it).

Anywhere but near/in Quebec, you'll be fine not knowning it.

 

French is an elegant language. However, unless you live in Quebec, you don't have to learn it at all.

If you are going to elementary school it is a mandatory subject. But from High School, it becomes optional.

Learning it will raise ur chances of getting a job.

You will only need to speak french if you come live in quebec, because we're the only province to speak french.

heard they were all separatist and either wanted to return to France / get separate nation status. Don't know the whole deal so could have heard it all wrong.

I was born in Toronto, and I take french at school i live in Pittsburgh.

 

LOL?? Dude, we never wanted to return to France lol. We only want to be a country because Canada screwed us all up till the beginning of Canada history. English canadian hates us, and we hate them, it's as simple as that.

And we are not all separatists, I am, lots of young people are, but there's too many fucking immigrants that votes for the Liberal part so we aren't known as a country yet (sorry if I'm being rude but that's BULLSHIT). Well at least a lot of "white quebeckers" are separatists.

Well, French may be needed in Ontario, like in Ottawa they speak French a little.
And it may help you get a job, so I say LEARN it .

P.S : Oh and the guy who said he's gonna have fun in toronto...LOL...seriously everything is closed so early in Ontario, come in Quebec there you gonna have fun, we are the damn party province ! haha
