Weird thing i was thinking about today.

What is consciousness?
Sure, i would like to say i am a "person" an "individual" but what am i really?
Millions of cells combined to create an illusion of being something...?
This may sound stupid, but....what if when i died all my cells somehow transfered back into the earth...back into everything, the cycle of life...into a new consciousness? I know I'm conscious now and have no memory of before my life began...but what does that matter, I'm alive now. This kind of sounds like reincarnation, but in a more....non religious way. Do you get what I'm saying?

 

This is perhaps the issue I think about the most.

My current belief-in-progress is that consciousness is an emergent property of the brain, as transparency is an emergent property of glass, and wetness of water.

 

agreed with shredder, sentience is the result of being able to reason on a certain level, unattainable by animals with smaller brains.

 

ive been thinking about this for along time. I always been meaning to post it but never did

 

^.^ i always think of stuff along this line, when we die we return to the earth from which we came from, each of us combining into a giant 'essence' pool of consciousness, and each time a new being is brought into the world it is formed using bits and pieces of others who have lived, thus creating a new slate to be scribbled on but each time a new one is formed they have some of the last persons scribbles on their slate hence, children recollecting past lives and saying that they've died before

Yes, what i think is farfetched and wil be poked fun at most likely, but hey feel free

 

I am amazed by the amount of "life" there is on this planet, just look on a football field, all that grass is life...
Its also amazing that if you look at life, you need to end one, to continue your own. We kill animals, trees, even bacteria, or insects and they also kill us. Its so wrong, but yet so normal/natural, its just weird.

 

Gah! My head hurts.

Basicly what dirt(earth) is really just all the remains of organisms and left-overs(shit). So when you die you basicly (over a period of time) turn into the earth.

But I dont think your mind turns into the earth as well.

 

A very interesting thought, even I have been thinking about. I like Damien's point of view. we have to end another life, to continue our own. i absolutely agree. cruel but so natural and u said.

I agree with this statement. I think the consciousness is not situated within the brain.

Alright. If you take a single water molecule, it is not considered "wet", is it? If you take 100, those would not be wet. However, if you take an entire puddle of water, and stick your hand in, your hand is now "wet".

It's the same with brain cells. If you take one, it's not conscious. However, with the billions we have, and the degree of complexity to which it is organized, consciousness emerges by itself.

Although, in my opinion, consciousness should exist without an awareness behind it.

What I think consciousness is is that we have the actions to do what we want ourselves. We have full knowledge on our actions.

I get what your saying... I'd just like to comment a bit on the dieing part.

What your saying is kind of like electrons. They never die... They just transfer from one object to another, and take a light for an example. When less electrons inside it, the light dims. When there are no electrons, there is no light. But us humans, we generate our source of power from food... This is different to how electrons generate electrity... So what happens when we die would have to be different aswell. I guess what im saying is that we wouldn't transfer our "electrons" into the ground... But another way, and i believe there is another way. There almost has to be. Could this way be spiritual? or another way?

Regardless. I think there is life After death.

Wait i think i have made an mistake. But i'll leave it up there becuase it will make sense to some people.

Where iv'e made the mistake is with the electrons. Electrons don't transfer, it's energy that transfers. The "electrons" stay where they are, eventually losing enegy to some means, be this heat, light, etc, and they gain energy back again by quiet a few ways. Examples would be; Friction (Creating Kenetic energy), Transfer (from one object to another), and many more. So therefore, us humans would eventually lose our "energy" and die untill we are recharged. God that mean's theres no life after death >.> Unless theres a way we get charged once we're corpses... Maybe instead of getting recharged we get our memory whipped and put in a new body... God i just can't stand to think about it anymore. Iv'e had enuf ^.^
