    I have £4000 to spend.

I would do something smarter (other than just spending it all) with that money, that's for sure.

    I have £4000 to spend.

Intel E8500/E8600 dual core processor or Q9550/9650 quad core processor no point in buying the qx 9xxx processors unless you have unlimited money flow then go for a QX9770, A high end DDR3 X48 chipset motherboard, Ati radeon Hd4870x2 video card in crossfire (remember gtx280 usually beats 9800gx2 and 4870x2 beats gtx280 in sli or tri sli) so crossfire those (the sli of ati radeon). Then you buy like 4 gigabytes of 1800 or 2000+ mhz of ddr3 ram with the lowest latency possible, get a 1+ kilowatt power supply like Corsair 1000hx or maybe like 1,3kw Enermax Galaxy.
That would be the most high end deal and for extreme gaming, but now to the but part...New parts come out every few months so I suggest you to not to spend all of your money on those parts and have none next month. I would reccomend you get the best (computer) power supply (that you wont have to upgrade so much) and like a dual core E8500 or E8600 card and a single 4870x2 with ddr3 ram (remember the ddr3 ram you can also use for a couple of generations because intels next processors "nehalem" will be ddr3 only and you could use those with the new generation) and about going quad core, i suggest not doing so until "nehalem" arrives which I just mentioned before, because it would have no point. It would probably cost you about £1000 if you did it the way I just said. Dont spend it all!!!
    Good luck.

I agree 100% with The Viper. Buy yourself a nice Dell XPS laptop, and save the rest.

Sorry for this but I'm not good with computers and I'm guessing people reading this are, may I ask is there a way to download a graphic card instead of spending cash on it?

Do NewEgg deliver to the UK?

I have an Xbox 360 but I can't access Xbox Live (connection problems) and there's not really any point playing without Live.

You can but they cost (most do) the Nvidia home page.

Get a motherboard that supports 2 gfx cards so that you put 2 high-end cards, and get something like,4GB RAM,and a core 2 Extreme CPU,and 1 TB or more HDD if you download lots of stuff.

    Don't get premade computers.
If any, get an Alienware, they have some kick ass computers.
But agreeing with what was said, you should be spending $2500, MAX.
With $2500, parting your computer and building it, would make it a kick-ass machine.
If you care about aesthetics, get a nice case from newegg, and put LED's and cathodes and whatever elde.
As for the hardware, I can't really say, but 4GB of RAM, with a 750GB HDD should be wayy more than enough.
That nVidia Gforce graphics card looks good, but I can't find a link.
Newegg is one of the better parts sites, but I'm not sure if they ship to the UK, I would think so.

    I have £4000 to spend.

    www.alienware.com

they have some badass overcloaked computers for under 5 grand. They also have the new 4870 X2 out which isnt on the market yet ^.^ 700$ card. external memory, anything you want and plenty of cash to spend. I recommend the 32 inch samsung screen, recently bought a 1.5 grand computer from them waiting on shipment

if your willing to spend that much, go with the Triple 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 2 but thats over 2 grand just for graphic cards. the area 51 alx is amazingly fast one of my friends has it and I literally orgasmed playing crysis, he just has the 9800 gx which is still an amazing card.

    Hello Miss799 Apprentice

    I have £4000 to spend.

Rofl don't waste your nice cash on some brand name computer and build your own. with 8000$ you can go beyond a 9800GX2 and go for 3x GTX 280's in SLI with alot of other features. (a 9800GX2 is basically a 9800GT with 2 cores)

Like I said though, Alienwares are basically making you pay 1000$ extra for getting it overclocked.

I have some parts I could sell you in fact I can sell you 2 8800GTS' with the SLI Bridge for 600USD, I also got some full tower cases, and some PhenomX4's

the 8800GTS' are overclocked from 500MHzcore to 600MHZ and 800MHz mem to 850MHz

add my msn please [email protected]

    I have £4000 to spend.

If you want to spend all of it on entertainment, why not:

Buy a good computer for £1,000
Buy an Xbox 360, AND a PS3, and maybe even a Wii.
Buy yourself a nice plasma/LCD TV.
Buy one of those unique and clever Ikea home theater things you can hook up to your TV and your computer.

And you should still have enough to spend on games, etc. Honestly $8,000 for a computer is a lot, no matter how much you can afford (I think the currency change is right).

Wait til intel's next processor codenamed Nehalem or Core i7 comes out. It will have 8 cores and the fastest which will be priced at $1000 will be like 3ghz. 3ghz * 8 cores = one fast processor.

Pair up that with some DDR3 2000mhz and 3 GTX 280's soon to be GTX 290's coming out and you'll be having 200fps in crysis max settings. (I might be exaggerating a little :p)

A motherboard can't supply 6 sli... only quad so far

A graphics card is a piece of hardware... You can't download hardware, you go to the store and buy it and physically put it into your computer. What you can download is driversr and if you find the right ones it will boost your performance.

Ummm I dont really know how to respond to this one. Unless there is a way to transfer hardware through the internet then I think you are gonna have to stick with buying it yourself. Sorry
