Sorry, but this kind of pissed me off. I mean hell, are they not people to? I know and understand that they are convicted sex offenders, etc etc. But not all of them are always going to be touching little children, and what have you. They paid there debt, get on with it. Let them comment their friends!!

Facebook is a private organization, they should do as they please, and they did. If it was up to me, I wouldn't, but that's just because I don't give a shit.

Is that a joke? Are you a sex offender?

It's a mental illness that never goes away. It can be controlled but it never goes away

Why should they be allowed on facebook when it's a private company?

I laughed. A mental illness? You are generalizing to the most extreme. Every stupid eighteen year old that had sex with his sixteen year old girlfriend and is caught has a mental illness?

    False

When a murder goes to jail, you don't think they'll get out after 10 years and kill another person?

They're probably trying to save themselves from lawsuits.

Given the nature of facebook and the rate of recurrence for sex offenders, I don't see anything wrong with the decision. Granted, I'm not sure whether it was done simply to improve Facebook's image, or due to worrisome statistics - but either way, part of a sex offender's "debt" is the label, and whatever comes with it. Most of their victims never get "better," and you're looking at the wrong side of the coin if you think the stigma is unfair for *them*.

Well, I'm glad some of you actually care about sex offenders.

The majority aren't sex with minors. There stuff like rape, molestation, and carnal knowledge. Also, unless you are a convicted sex offender then your basically just trolling. It's a private company. Let them do what they want. They aren't discriminating, as what sex offenders did was entirely their fault. They are in no way not responsible for their crimes.

Sex offenders don't deserve to be on social networking sites because they had their chance and they blew it. That's all there is to it

I'm glad that they got rid of sex offenders. Gross people. They shouldn't ever be allowed on the internet, not just facebook.

Sucks. Why would they do that? Ruins the fun in adding random people.

So what you're saying is they can't shop at any private stores if the people want to?

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be allowed on fb. They could at least be monitered or something.

And how do you propose they're monitored?

If they removed the offenders, then Facebook knows who they are. If they know who the offenders are, then what they do (as in who they add, what they say) can be monitored.

What is done on Facebook right now is monitored, whether or not you are a sex offender. How heavily they monitor and what they do is another story.

"The message in this number is Facebook has an equal stake in solving this problem of protecting children," said Blumenthal, who along with North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper has led an effort remove sex offenders from the social networking Web sites.

[I realize that sex offenders don't have to have sex with a minor to be convicted and can be convicted due to rape of someone over the age of consent, etc., but...]...aren't children not allowed on facebook? Also, if they are trying to protect children, the amount of content requiring removal would be massive.

Funny thing is, Facebook was never made for kids. It was supposed to be made to find your classmates from High School and college.

But, I digress. I guess it is right for them to take away the sex offenders.
