    General Infraction Rules

    General Information
The overall purpose of this guide is to inform users of punishments and to what extent punishment is carried out by Jagexâ„¢ to enforce stated policies and rules. Any republishing of this guide must be accompanied with stated credit as to whom the real author is.

    General Infractions
The infraction system that Jagexâ„¢ uses is a "Black Mark" system. After each infraction a "Black Mark" is placed on your account's record. You have chances to appeal black marks, allowing you to explain why or why not the infraction was committed. After a certain amount of "Black Marks" is exceeded your account can be permanently removed from the game (Your literal account is removed from the database, your Internet Protocol remains usable on Runescape.)

    Appealable Offences
Appealable Offenses are offences that can be appealed by sending in a query to Jagexâ„¢ through the Runescape site either apologizing for the infraction committed or explaining why you think you haven't committed a wrong-doing. Appealable Offences are labeled as "Appealable" on the Runescape "Offence History" page. Check to see if your infractions are appealable by:
    • Click "Appeal an Offence/Ban"

    Infraction Summary
Infractions are usually distributed as bans in daily increments. The daily increments differ as to the serious of your infraction committed. Minor infractions might go without punishment, or you will be supplied with a warning. While other infractions can result in permanent bans.
    • A Twenty-Four Hour Ban is usually given to minor infractions such as mild offensive language, or advertising a website.
    • Other daily increments are given to more serious infractions such as item scamming, or bug abusing.
    • Permanent Bans are given for serious infractions or repeated breaking of the rules or code of conduct.

    Account Muting
Account Muting is a form of punishment in which players are unable to conversate with other players. This can have serious impacts on various actions in Runescape such as trading and communicating with other players. Account Muting is usually a result of an infraction dealing with verbal communication with others players such as offensive language or site advertising.

    Account Locking
Account Locking is a form of protection from security issues with your account. If Jagexâ„¢ thinks your account is in danger they will usually lock your account, not allowing anyone to log into that account until further proof or evidence as to why others are accessing the account.

    Internet Protocol Banning
Also known as IP Banning, this is a case in which Jagexâ„¢ bans your Internet Protocol not allowing you to access the game from the computer from which the Internet Protocol is based. This infraction is only given to serious infractions such as duplication of items or in other drastic situations.
